Home & School
The Concordia Middle School parent organization, Home and School, is active in providing needs and implementing events for the students, faculty, and staff of CMS. The Home and School Officers for the 2018-2019 school year are: Janelle Donovan, President; Kristi Benyshek, Vice President; Niki Henderson-Trost, Treasurer; and Trisha McDaniel, Secretary. The organization meets at CMS once a month at 11:30am.
Home and School assists with funding AR Parties, Behavior Parties, Field Trips, DARE graduation, and multiple other student activities. CMS teachers and staff can also ask for a monetary stipend to be used within the academic year. During Parent Teacher Conferences we provide meals and/or treats for the teachers.
This fall, the Home and School will be selling CMS T-shirts and Casey's Cards. We will also hold a Gas Card Giveaway Raffle. Winners are announced during the annual CMS Variety Show held in November. The drawing consists of gas card prizes for first, second and third place. Top seller students win a prize. At the Science Fair in the spring, we will host a meal for the students and families.
We ask that if any parent is interested in helping throughout the school year, by providing treats or donating time, to contact a Home and School officer.
Our first meeting will be September 19th at CMS!
5th Grade Field Trips to Starbase
STARBASE began the second week of school with all 5th graders traveling to Salina to take part in the program. STARBASE is an interactive STEM based experience for students to participate in activities such as rocket launches, EV3 Robotics, and 3D CAD design. This is an excellent example of an opportunity for hands on learning experiences for all students.
**The bus will leave promptly at 8:05am! Please have your child here on time as the bus cannot turn back for any late students.
**Your child will need a sack lunch field trip days!

Annual Cross Country Run
The Concordia Middle School Cross Country Run will be held on Friday, October 5th (rain date October 8th). The Cross Country Run is a one-mile run that will be held at the City Park across from the Middle School.
During the race, students will be assigned to a designated area to cheer on their classmates. Parents, family and friends are invited to attend and cheer on their child(ren), however, for safety reasons students need to stay in their designated areas and keep the running course clear. Students are not allowed on the playground during the event!
Students will be able to use the water fountain in the park for drinks, they can also bring a water bottle.
The CMS Cross Country Run has become an annual event. Top 10 finishers in each category will get ribbons. On the back is the record for each category.
The running will go as followed but may run a few minutes earlier or later than scheduled:
5th grade girls – 1:30
5th grade boys – 1:50
6th grade girls – 2:10
6th grade boys – 2:30
The CMS staff and I would like to see you there cheering on your child(ren) as he/she crosses the “finish line”. Students are able to leave with parents after ALL races have been completed. Parents must sign their student out in the Middle School office prior to leaving - students will need to return inside to obtain their book bags & homework.
From the Nurse....
USD #333 will be providing free oral health screenings. This screening by a Registered Dental Hygienist is not a substitute for an examination by a dentist and will in no way interfere with any treatment received from a dentist. A copy of the screening report will be sent home with your child.
All district students will be screened unless there is a parent/guardian notification otherwise. IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS FREE ORAL HEALTH SCREENING, PLEASE FILL OUT, AND RETURN THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE FORM.
In addition to the oral health screenings, fluoride varnish applications will also be available at NO COST TO THE STUDENT. If your child has a dental home and receives regular fluoride varnish at their dentist's office, you may choose to decline the fluoride varnish services.
If you did not receive the form, you may obtain one through your School Nurse's office.
Dental services will be provided in the USD #333 School District, September 12th & 13th.
Staff Member of the Month - John Turner
John and his wife Brenda have been married for 28 years. They have lived in Concordia since 1990 when they came to town to manage Big Cheese Pizza and never left. They have 4 great kids (Tamara, Nicole, Jonathan, and Timothy,) who were all born in Concordia.
In his free time John is very active in the Wesleyan Church, working with children's ministries, mainly elementary aged kids, along with his wife. They also help with the Community Easter Egg Hunt and Trunk N Treat outreaches. At home John has many collections such as HOT Wheels, coins, and rocks. He also enjoys working in his yard and restoring his 1962 Ford Fairlane that he has owned for 30 years. Most of all, John enjoys spending time with his family.
