Instructional Tips for Home
Student Device Advice - Updated Warranty Information
Recently, we were made aware that the warranty on student devices covers two warranty repairs per school year. The warranty covers accidental damages like broken/cracked screens, malfunctioning keys, broken cases, etc. The warranty does not cover purposeful damage that is witnessed by school personnel.
If your family purchased the optional device protection plan, it covers damages not covered in the warranty. It does not cover the loss of a device that has not been reported stolen.
Due to this information, we are making a slight change in how we handle repairs when needed. Starting Jan. 9, student laptops needing repair will be sent in for repairs. The student will be required to wait for their laptop to return rather than immediately being assigned a different laptop to use.
Supporting Your Child in Middle School Math - PBS Parents
Below are some useful tips on how you can support your child in math:
- Always have notes from class, a textbook or other resources right next to a homework paper. If your child is stuck, he/she is likely to find a similar problem in one of the resources that can help you move forward.
- Ensure the student takes responsibility for her own learning by finding assistance independently; the ability to access help on your own is essential for student success in all areas of academics.
- Never just give the answer to problems! By giving answers, you are depriving your child of the chance to develop the mental processes required to learn a new concept. Work through the problem with your child when he/she is having difficulty.
- The most important thing to convey to your children is not to give up. Mathematical concepts are intricate and take time to grasp.
Safety Tips
As it gets darker earlier this time of the year, please share the following tips with your students when walking home:
- Walk with a friend.
- Always refuse to go anywhere with people you don’t know.
- Students are not expected to help adults with directions or lost puppies or other items.
- If a driver stops, and the driver attempts to ask for help, children should run away.
- If a dangerous situation arises, students should make lots of noise to alert neighbors, run to a safe place or find an adult they can trust.
