Mixing with Alcohol
Most of energy drink related emergency-room visits are from teens mixing alcohol with them. Teens that mix binge-drink more than teens that don't. This sends many to the emergency room.
Caffeine Problems
Energy drinks contain high amounts of caffeine. If teens drink energy drinks too much, the caffeine inside could cause some health problems. It can disturb the heart's rhythm and increase a person's heart rate and blood pressure. It can also harm the cardiovascular and nervous systems of children.
Short-Term Effects
Energy drinks can cause:
- Difficulty Sleeping
- Frequent Urination
- Hard Time Concentrating
- Headaches
- Jitters
- Nervousness
- Upset Stomach
Long-Term Effects
An overdose of an energy drink results in caffeine addiction, which causes:
- Nervousness
- Restlessness
- Insomnia
- Irregular/Rapid Heartbeat
- Death
Also, neurological conditions like seizures have been noted.
