Ordean East Middle School News
Vol.3 Issue 6 - September 17, 2021
It has been an exciting start to the 2021-2022 school year! Having all of our students physically in the building has brought incredible joy and energy to our middle school hallways. As a staff we are focused on and committed to our students’ learning, and we are incredibly excited to have students back in the classrooms. It truly feels like an overdue celebratory fall homecoming.
As part of our commitment to our students, we will be using FastBridge assessments in math and reading to help identify students who may be at risk for not reaching grade level standards and could potentially benefit from additional academic support. Math and literacy skills are foundational pieces of school learning and success.
All students will be assessed using the FastBridge system three times per year (September, January and May). If your child previously attended an ISD 709 elementary school it is likely they are already familiar with FastBridge assessments. Our current 7th grade students who attended Ordean as 6th graders are also likely familiar with the FastBridge assessments due to their participation in a pilot program during distance learning last school year.
The assessments will take approximately 30-40 minutes per subject. “FASTtrack reading” will be taken on Monday, September 27 in science classrooms. “FASTtrack math” will be taken on Tuesday, September 28 in math classrooms. The assessments are computer-administered and headphones are recommended. Additional information on the specific assessments is provided at the end of this letter.
We are excited for the adoption of FastBridge assessments at the middle level and are eager to begin full implementation work.
Sincerely,
Gina Kleive, principal
