Tuesday Times
Havelock North Primary School - 25th October 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
I hope you all managed to have some quality time with your families. The year is sliding by rather quickly with only 61 days until Christmas.
New Students
A big welcome to our new students Diandre, and Ruben. Well done on making such a positive start to school life at HNPS.
Mufti Day - This Friday
Friday has been tagged as a mufti - gold coin donation day to support our school Supper Club service. Also at Friday's assembly, we will be officially recognised by our Enviro schools facilitators as accomplishing Silver Enviro Status. As it is a mufti day some children might like to dress up in their bat costumes, silver attire or recyclable/ WOW creations to help mark the wonderful manaakitanga (act of kindness) of the Supper Club service and to celebrate our Silver Enviro achievement. For the Year 1 & 2 children who are walking to swimming on this day, we respectfully ask that any mufti clothing worn is easy for them to take on and off independently. Dinosaur and Princess costumes are often a challenge for the kids to get in and out of. Thank you!
Hats
A reminder that now we are in Term 4, hats are compulsory. Students without hats will need to play in the shade area.
Caretaker Position (Closes this Friday)
Sadly, the amazing Mr Robin Gray is retiring so we need to find a replacement. This is a 40 hour per week role, and remuneration will be subject to negotiation, depending on the skills and experience of the preferred candidate.
The Caretaker is responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the grounds and buildings. Minor maintenance work shall be undertaken when such work can be done without the requirements of a registered or qualified tradesman.
Please send a CV and letter of application to Nick Reed - Principal by this Friday 28th October.
email principal@hnps.school.school.nz

Peak Trail Blazer
We are just over three weeks away from the Peak Trail Blazer on the 20th November and the organising committee is in full swing.
It’s been great to see the Peak Trail Blazer T-shirts being worn around school. We have a few extra t-shirts in certain sizes, so if your child missed out and would like a t-shirt, please get in touch.
We are looking for volunteers who can help marshal on the morning of the event, 20th November, or help with registration on November 19th from 12 - 2 pm. We would really appreciate the support so if anyone can lend a hand, we would be very grateful.
Entries have been going strong and we aren’t too far away from selling out the Tainui Trail, so please make sure you get your entries in so you don’t miss out.
If you would like to support in any way, please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or Peak Trailblazer peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz

Enviro Corner Term 4 Week 2
Kiwi Conservation Club, Hastings-Havelock North
Thank you to all those who attended the recent Kororā Sanctuary visit at Napier Port. It was a fascinating & entertaining trip led by their Environmental Advisor, Paul Rose. We learned some interesting facts about the Little Blue Penguins and got to see a cheeky one in action. Kororā are considered 'at risk/declining' - but their numbers appear to be increasing at the Port thanks to the safe environment, free from dogs and cats. They are the world's smallest penguins and the only ones that walk at an unusual 45-degree angle!
More info here including the live video feeds - https://www.napierport.co.nz/our-business/our-future/6-wharf/building-sustainably/korora-sanctuary/
I have been in touch with Paul Rose since the event and KCC will have two new nesting boxes to design and paint! More info to come on this... Very exciting.
