Principal's Report
Kia Ora e te Whānau and welcome to Week 6 of the term.
Sadly, this week we farewelled two of our valued staff members.
Mrs Brittany Morrison finished this week in preparation for welcoming a new baby into her family in the next couple of weeks. Mrs Morrison has worked across the school as our release teacher. We are really going to miss the enthusiasm and fun she brings to all our classrooms and look forward to welcoming her back to BPS once her children are a little older. We also look forward to meeting the newest little Morrison in a few weeks.
Mrs Makerita Laban also finishes this week, as she is relocating with her family to Invercargill. Mrs Laban has provided bi-lingual support for our school for almost 3 years and has been invaluable in supporting a number of students and families. We wish her and her family all the best as they embark on an exciting new chapter in their lives.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave
Room 3
Room 3 students have had a busy week! We were lucky enough to visit Dave and his helpers from the University of Otago who showed us some amazing science, looking at acidity. We even had a chance to play with some dry ice! On Friday we made some beautiful art to support daffodil day. The children all did an amazing job! We were also involved in the Future Focus Learning (FFL) with other schools around South Otago and learnt how to make a story with sound and movement using our own art on Scratch Jr.
Ngā mihi nui,
Trudy Hayes and Jenny Harris.

Mask Wearing at Balclutha Primary School
The Board of Trustees has reviewed our COVID protocols and has decided that from the beginning of next week we will begin to relax our mask expectations in line with the reduced number of cases in our school community.
From Monday 5 September:
- mask wearing wil be optional for staff and students in the classroom
- all students (year 4 and above), staff and visitors will continue to wear masks in assembly and other large school indoor gatherings.
- adult visitors to our classrooms will continue to wear masks inside, and staff will wear masks when meeting with our visitors.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to minimize the impact of COVID in our school community.
