Why do you need iron?
Owen Brasseaux 3
Iron is used by the body to make hemoglobin, an important protein in your blood. It is what carries the oxygen all around your body. Iron is also used to make cytochrome(a protein that makes ATP), and catalase(an enzyme that breaks hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water).
Without iron, blood can't carry oxygen around your body. Not getting enough iron lowers the amount of oxygen in the brain which can cause a feeling of fatigue, lowered mental capability, and developmental problems in children.
You can get iron by eating red meat, lentils, beans, poultry, fish, leaf vegetables, and some wheat products. It is recommended that you get around 10 mg a day or more.
