School day information
Just a few reminders about our school day.
- The gate is open each morning from 7:00-7:45.
- The first bell rings at 7:45.
- The tardy bell rings at 7:50.
- If you arrive after the gate closes at 7:45, you will need to walk your child into the front entry of the building.
- Masks are not required.
- PreK and Head Start students, without older siblings, dismiss at 3:00.
- If you have more than one child in more than one grade level, they will dismiss at 3:15 at the youngest child's location.
- Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd graders dismiss at 3:15 in their assigned locations.
If your child is tardy or absent, you will be asked for a parent note. Being out for part of a day, arriving tardy and leaving early, counts against your child's attendance. Please see the Attendance Reminders at the bottom of the newsletter for more attendance information.
Afternoon Pick-up Reminders
The safety of everyone on campus is our priority and our afternoon pick up procedures are in place to ensure just that.
Please do not park/wait in our South parking lot in order to cut and avoid the pick up line.
Please do not pass the line of cars in order to go around. South Berry Street is a two way street, and this is unsafe when it happens.
The pick up line is ONE line. It does not double UNLESS a staff member instructs you to go around the line. Once you are in line, you must go along the right lane until you have picked up your child. Once picked up, you may then go around to the left of the line to exit.
Also, please make sure that your car tag is hanging from the mirror. We have staff outside calling for students from the car tags. If you do not have your car tag hanging, it lengthens the pick up process. If you do not have your car tag, you will not be allowed to pick your child up in their location. You will be required to drive around to the front and wait until the others have been brought to the office after 3:30.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at michelle.wiese@burkburnettisd.org or call at 940-569-3311. Thank you for your help with this!
Drop Off and Pick-up Procedures and Map
Below are links to our drop off and pick-up procedures and map.
Please be sure to remain in your car for drop off and pickup. Staff members will open car doors to get kids out at drop off and will put kids into your car at dismissal. You are welcome to have your child get out at the drop off location without a staff member if you prefer.
Please remember that we will NOT dismiss students to anyone walking up, even with a car tag. This is a safety issue! Our procedures state that everyone is to drive through the line, have a car tag hanging from the rear view mirror, and remain in your car so that a staff member may put your child into the car. Every staff member knows and follows our procedures that have been sent out several times. Please do not get angry with them for following procedures that are keeping your child safe.
Please be courteous to other drivers. We DO NOT have two lanes and pick up in the afternoon. Please do not park and wait in the South parking lot to avoid the line to later enter in front of others who have been waiting.
Please do not park in a crosswalk or block someone's driveway. The Burkburnett Police Department will give citations to anyone they observe doing this.
If you have any questions regarding drop off or pick up, please contact your child's teacher or Michelle Wiese.

Attendance reminders from our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kristen Taylor
Below are a few of the district attendance requirements:
Doctor notes will make an absence excused.
Up to 5 parent notes can be used to excuse tardies (partial day absences) or full day absences; 5 parent notes are allowed per semester.
Please be sure to submit an absence excuse/note within 72 hours.
The district’s attendance policy can be found on burkburnettisd.org: (starting on page 30) or at this link: https://f.hubspotusercontent10.net/hubfs/2970667/2021-2022%20Student%20Handbook%20Final%207-15-21.pdf
The best thing to do is to communicate with your child’s teacher and our front office staff. Our phone number is: 940-569-3311. We are happy to help you navigate through the proper procedures regarding absences.
- If transportation is a struggle, BISD has many bus routes that serve the community for K-12th graders. The Bus Barn’s phone number is (940) 569-2772. You can call them to get your child set up on a BISD Bus Route, or you can let me know and I can assist in setting this up.
