D220 crews continue work on summer projects

As Barrington prepares to welcome students back for the 2019-20 school year, crews are finishing up various projects to improve all of our buildings.

One major project that will impact every building in the district is the implementation of a new district radio communication system. The new system will improve radio coverage at each school, allow administrators at different schools to communicate with one another via radio during an emergency, and it will give the district the ability to use an emergency call button that will be connected to local dispatch centers.

Another major safety upgrade is happening at Barrington High School, where crews are installing a secure vestibule entrance. The secure entrance will be located at Entrance 45, on the lower level, to the left of the front main entrance. Once the school day begins, visitors and students will only be able to use this entrance to enter BHS during school hours.

Also at BHS, crews replaced the turf at Barrington Community Stadium. Through regular maintenance and field management, the district was able to extend the field past its 10 year life expectancy. The new turf will ensure ongoing safety and playability for students and community members who use the field. Turf fields also require less maintenance than natural grass, do not require irrigation, and maintain their resilience and safety after regular, multi-sport use.

At Sunny Hill Elementary, crews are currently renovating the library, turning it into a 21st century learning space. The newly designed space and furniture will facilitate incubators for innovation, whole-class and individual project-based learning, large and small group collaboration spaces and the ability for students to do presentations both in real time and recorded formats. Thanks to the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation for helping to support this project!

Meet our new Board President

"In 2011, Penny Kazmier was voted the Daily Herald “Cook of the Year”, but she still knows the phone number to Rosati’s Pizza by heart. It came in handy many nights, while raising and juggling the schedules of her four children."

BHS has a new head chef

When BHS students return to school next month, they will find new and improved lunch options. BHS has moved off the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to contract with Quest Food Management Services Inc. Moving off the NSLP at the high school level eases restrictions, which allows for more variety for teens. Elementary and middle schools will remain on the NSLP and contract with Sodexo North America, with a focus on more fresh food options.

We moved!

At the end of the 2018-19 school year, the Barrington 220 School District moved to its new headquarters at 515 West Main Street, right across from Barrington High School. On Tuesday, August 13 the Barrington Chamber of Commerce will be holding a ribbon cutting at the new District Administrative Center. The event will take place from 4pm-5pm. Visitor parking is available in the front of the building.

Back to school movie night

Barrington 220 is excited to celebrate the start of the 2019-20 school year with a back to school movie night at BHS! Barrington 220: To Infinity and Beyond! will feature a showing of "Toy Story" on the big screen at Barrington Community Stadium. Admission is FREE and refreshments will be available for purchase. The event will take place on Friday, August 23. The movie will begin at 8:30pm, after the Red and White scrimmage. All families are welcome.

*Don't forget to purchase your $5 Bronco Nation t-shirt prior to the movies, at the Red and White scrimmage! Stampede the stands in RED at all BHS events!

Rotary raising money for lifesaving kits

Barrington 220 is proud to partner with the Barrington Rotary Clubs to provide life-saving "Stop the Bleed" kits to every Barrington area classroom (public and parochial), plus public areas such as the library and parks. In the event of a tornado, active shooter, or any other serious catastrophe, having advanced first aid kits in classrooms will allow treatment of student injuries, with a 7-10 minute jump-start before professional aid arrives. If you are interested in helping to provide these life saving kits, click here.

To make a donation, you can also stop by the Rotary booth at the upcoming National Night Out, hosted by the Barrington Police Department. It will take place Thursday, August 8 from 5:30pm -8:30pm at Cook and Station Streets in downtown Barrington.
