Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year
We hope this newsletter provides helpful information, including new information about School Meals, Chromebooks and Bus Patrol, a new bus safety program. Also included are the wonderful activities and events that took place over the summer, as well as the first two days of the new school year.
Important Information About School Meals
We are pleased to inform you that Bensalem Township School District (BTSD) has implemented a new provision known as the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2022-2023 school year. This program is available to schools and districts that are participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.
All BTSD enrolled students are eligible to receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch each school day at no charge to your household. No further action is required. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without paying a fee or submitting an application. NOTE: There is a charge for any snack or a la carte item.
While there is no charge for both breakfast and lunch for all BTSD students this year, families are encouraged to apply for the Free/Reduced Meal Program. Approval for the program may allow you to qualify for possible additional P-EBT benefits from the state, fee waivers for college applications and fee waivers for certain testing, i.e. SAT’s. Please apply for the Free/Reduced Meal Program at www.schoolcafe.com
If we can be of further assistance, please contact BTSD Food Services Department at 215-750-2800 ext. 4080.
Bensalem Launches Bus Safety Program
This safety initiative seeks to curb dangerous motorist behavior around school buses and make the journey to and from school safer for all student riders. This innovative program is now live.
Those found passing a school bus with a stop-arm out and red lights flashing will be issued a $300 civil penalty. For more information, please watch BTSD Superintendent, Dr. Lee and Bensalem Township Public Safety Director McVey on Mayor DiGirolamo's Show discussing Bus Patrol.
Chromebooks and Tablets
Chromebook distribution for students in grades 1-12 will take place at your child's school.
Kindergarten students will have tablets to use in school. Look for more information from your child's school.

Summer Meals
Administrative Retreat
The school year ended on June 17th, but the work of our leadership team continued on June 23rd. A meaningful day took place with the Bensalem Township School District administrative team reflecting on their progress building trust and agency, learning the science of passion and flow in work, and setting new goals for growth as leaders grounded in our learning about the brain. Thank you Julia Skolnik for your partnership in advancing education across the district.
Extended School Year Program
Again this summer, students and staff came together as part of the school district’s Extended School Year Program. Students had a great summer reinforcing skills and participating in fun activities like “Superhero Day” and various Olympic celebrations. Thank you to the staff, custodians and administrators at Belmont Hills, Cornwells, Faust and Bensalem High School for the support they provided throughout the program. Also, a special thank you to our transportation team for all they did to ensure students were able to safely participate in critical programs throughout the summer months.
Summer Camps
As you can see by the smiling faces, our summer camps were all a great success!
Emergency Preparedness Training
On July 18th, district and school administrators participated in Emergency Preparedness training with Bensalem Police Command staff, EMS and Bensalem Fire. We are truly grateful for the ongoing partnership. Together, we are committed to fostering a safe environment for our students and staff.
Summer Facilities Projects
Over the summer, our operations team was busy preparing our schools and buses for the 2022-23 school year. Extensive cleaning took place in all classrooms and offices in all schools, including the stripping and waxing of floors, sanitizing all touch surfaces and minor maintenance projects. Additionally, some summer projects included: outside painting at Cornwells, painting at Valley’s gymnasium, preventive maintenance work on HVAC systems and bus washing and maintenance for the PA State Inspection.
