Klase excels in Automata Project
Penn High School Introduction to Engineering Design student Nolan Klase, pictured above with Introduction to Engineering Design Instructor Tara Pieters, excelled in the recent Automata Project.
According to Pieters, an Automata is a moving mechanical device. It works by turning an axle that turns the cams (round shape in the box). It outputs a linear movement on top of the box. Students had creative freedom to determine the number of cams, type of cams, and the decor on top of the box to animate. Students began by making a generic Automata to understand how they work and then manipulated it into a custom design.
Students 3-D modeled the design in OnShape, then created them in real life.
Seniors can keep Chromebooks - be sure to transfer files from PHM Google Drive
