What is Confucianism ?

Confucianism is the way of life taught in the 5th-6th century B.C. Confucianism can also be viewed as a religion or a philosophy. The Chinese have been using Confucianism for more than two millennia, It has influenced the spiritual and political lives in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.

The Life of Confucius

Confucius was born 551 B.C. in the state Lu, China which is now the Shantung, Province. When Confucius was a little boy in China, when he was 3 his father had died. In Confucius's teenage years he was a compassionate learner and wanted to set his heart on his education. He developed concepts about education, society, and government that he hoped to teach others around the world. When Confucius was thirty he took a stand for what he believed in, No one knows who Confucius' teachers were, but his mastery of six arts were: rituals, music, archery, charioteering, calligraphy, and arithmetic. Confucius lived from 551-478 B.C.

Confucianism

Confucianism has about 5,000,000 followers. It has the biggest influence on the moral fabric of Chinese society. Confucianism was created in China. Confucianism was invented by Confucius but there are also many people who developed Confucianism to what it is today. Unlike Buddhism, which taught spiritual removing, Confucius instructed his followers to engage society through a code of honest behavior.

When Confucius was alive he taught many people in Ancient China some rules The golden rule says: treat others how you would want to be treated. Here are his 5 primary rules about behavior:


-Always be considerate to others.
-Respect your ancestors.
-Try for harmony and balance in all things.
-Avoid extremes in behavior and emotion.
-If you live in peace and harmony, then you will be in contact with the spiritual forces of the universe, including nature.

Confucius also taught five basic virtues:

1) kindness
2) righteousness
3) sobriety
4) wisdom
5) trustworthiness
