WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT

Dear Mariano Castro Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! Mariano Castro staff are rested and excited to kick-off this school year. Almost all of our teachers returned this year; the only new teacher is our special education RSP teacher, Ms. Kerry Scialabba. More good news, all of our family support staff are returning. Ernesto Nassau is returning as School and Community Engagement Facilitator, Manny Velasco as School Linked Services Coordinator, and Shamir Simmons as At-Risk Intervention Specialist.

The modernization of the permanent classrooms was completed over the summer and they look great! There is some new technology in those classrooms that you will see on Back to School Night. The construction of Castro's new school will continue throughout this year and will open next summer for August 2018.

This is going to be a wonderful year and we are looking forward to being a partner with your family in your child's education.

Best Regards,

Theresa Lambert

Principal Mariano Castro Elementary

NEW FOOD PANTRY

Our partnership with CSA (Community Services Agency) will continue this year. Any family that attends Castro or Mistral can pick up food on Thursdays. This year the time is changing to immediately after dismissal on Thursdays. Another change is to pantry format where you can simply choose the items you want rather than picking up a pre-packed bag. Remember to bring your reusable bags with you! Thank you to Manny and Ernesto for organizing this again.

Back to School Night August 31st 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Back to School Night this year is Thursday, August 31st. Note that this is a different night than Mistral's. Our goal is to have 100% family attendance at Back to School Night so please be sure to save this date!

Student SBAC Results

For students who were in grades 3, 4, or 5 last year, you will be receiving at the end of August the parent copy of your child's individual results on the state testing that we did last spring. The schoolwide results for Castro will be published by the State in early September. If our school meets our school goal, then the students will get a school carnival that was promised as a reward.

WIN Time and ELD Rotations

Students in every grade receive instruction from a variety of teachers. During WIN Time (What I Need - Intervention or Enrichment) and ELD (English Language Development) students are placed in groups according to their need and these groups change every 4-6 weeks for WIN and every trimester as appropriate for ELD.

WIN Time switching begins Aug. 21st and ELD switching begins Aug. 28th.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE

Parents, please don't forget to call the office when your child will be absent, call us as early as you know the student will be absent. If we don't receive a phone call your child will be marked "Unexcused" for that day. The number to our attendance line is 650 526 3590 EX:1804

Thank You to PTA!

PTA planned and executed a terrific Class Posting Event on Thurs. Aug. 10th. Thank you to the PTA Board Members, Trudy Wilson, Martha Nieves, Nelly Gomez, Lizbeth Velasco, Fidelia Tahuiton, William Buitron for their hard work on behalf of Castro. The funds raised at this event will help our school tremendously.
