Broadmoor's Weekly Wildcat News!
October 21-25, 2019
THANK YOU to our Bus Drivers and Transportation Office! It's National School Bus Safety Week!
Dear Broadmoor Families,
What a great week back!
This week, a huge shout-out goes to our students and staff for working extremely hard on various screenings and assessments. We use the information gathered to ensure our students are learning and our teachers are focusing on the right content. It is not an easy task to design and implement the right instruction for each individual student, but that is exactly what we are doing at BES! I have spent time in the classrooms observing and talking to the students about why we need this information from the tests - it truly helps us to design the best instructional routes to take!
We had a great turn-out for our first Cat's Coffee with grandparents. Our next one is on November 20th at 8am. Hope to see you there and share if you know of a grandparent who would be interested!
Saturday night was so much fun! Thank you to the PTO for hosting the Masked Dance for our families. The kids and parents had a great time and I think everyone enjoyed the masked singer competition - especially the masked singers! Thank you to Mrs. Goode, Mrs. Marsha, and Ms. Brummel for joining me on the stage. It was a great time! Congratulations to Ms. Brummel for winning the competition and earning the Golden Mask!
I want to turn your attention to our Teammates program that is starting. Teammates is a mentoring program like no other!! We are one of very few districts starting this program in Kansas and we need YOU! There is a section below devoted for more information. Please read over it and see if you would be interested. We'd love to have you!
This week is National School Bus Safety Week. Did you know that in Louisburg, our transportation staff of school bus drivers, van drivers, car drivers and monitors travel 1,500 miles per day just getting our kids to and from school? Besides delivering students to our five schools in Louisburg, we transport students to Garnett, Paola, Osawatomie, Prairie View and Olathe. In addition, they drove students over 25,000 miles to activities and athletic events last year. We are so very thankful to our drivers who safely get our kids to school and home each day. Please talk to your kids and teenage drivers about bus safety!
Check out our spirit wear section below! There's some great items.
Chess Club is back on Monday after school!
Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Schedule Change: 5th Grade Band Concert is now Oct. 29th at 7pm!!!
Teammates Coming to BES!
We are excited to tell you about TeamMates Mentoring Program coming to USD #416! TeamMates is a one to one school based mentoring program that prides itself on commitment to youth, safety, integrity and inclusion. The TeamMates philosophy is that ALL YOUTH can benefit from a mentoring relationship- from having their ‘one adult’ that provides a positive role model, identifies their strengths and provides guidance and wisdom.
TeamMates was founded in 1991 by Coach Tom Osborn of the University of Nebraska and his wife Nancy. Mentors spend 30 minutes to an hour per week at the school with their mentee, most often during lunch. Mentors are matched with their student based on common interests, hobbies and life experiences as well as preference for grade level. TeamMates mentees consistently maintain or improve their grades, attendance and behavior based on data collected through partnerships with local school districts.
Each TeamMates program is locally run, with a building coordinator and a program coordinator that facilitate matches and provide support to mentors and mentees. In addition, each program is supported by an Advisory Council that consists of local community members including business professionals, faith leaders and school representatives. The role of the Advisory Council is to lead the recruitment, marketing and fundraising efforts for the local program to be successful and meet the needs of students.
We would like to invite you to be a part of this program by being a mentor. Below is a link to the website where you can express your interest, get more information and apply to mentor. If you have any questions about TeamMates and how we can make Louisburg a better place for everyone, contact our office.
If you have anyone interested in giving one of our students just 20-30 minutes a week during the school day at BES - share this information! We have kids who need YOU!
Message from Nurse Candice
Dear Parents of BES students,
USD416 and Giving the Basics organization has partnered together to meet the needs of our students and provide basic hygiene items. Studies have shown that when a student has their basic needs met and feel good about themselves, their confidence is increased as well as their performance in school and friendships grow.
If you need assistance in obtaining these hygiene items such as toothbrush or shampoo please see the form attached and fill out and return to Nurse Candice. Paper copies will also be available at parent teacher conferences located in the main office.
