Happy New Year Runkle Community,
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and found time to relax with family and friends. This past week was only 4 days long, but it full of activity, celebration and learning. In an effort to start our days with joy, we are playing "Walk-In" music from 7:55-8:00am every morning. Staff have shared their favorite "happy" songs. Students and staff have an opportunity to match the adults to their songs on Friday morning (via a google form). This was our first week, but we have seen some very happy students and teachers dancing into the building this week!
Runkle is excited to share that 8th graders, Madeline Bushardt, Nikolai Rabiner and Yuval Gatmor Saban were recognized by national organization, Creative Communications, in their Poetic Power's Fall Poetry Contest. Congratulations to all three students and their ELA teacher, Ania Bigda. Ms. Bigda does an amazing job in instructing and encouraging our middle school students in the writing process. Thank you for making us #RunkleProud.
Runkle's Student Council successfully ran a Food Drive for Brookline's Food Pantry in the weeks leading up to the December break. Thanks to everyone who donated, a large collection of food/hygiene items were loaded up on Monday by Jessie Keppeler and Jamie Shushan. I know that Brookline Food Pantry is very appreciative of Runkle's generosity.
Brookline's School Committee presented Runkle's Mock Trial group with the Spotlight on Excellence Award at their most recent meeting on Thursday, January 5th. Students Xavier Dupuy, Daphne Spunt and Natan Shapiro spoke eloquently about their experiences preparing for the Mock Trial at the Brookline District Court House. Runkle parent, Jonathan Simpson, supervisor/mentor, was present to introduce our students. Thank you to all the students who participated and every parent who supported this program. You can watch the spotlight in its entirety here.
Lastly, we have recently organized our Lost & Found areas at Runkle. We have collected far too many items. Everything will be donated before February break. Please take a look at the photos below and feel free to come INTO Runkle to look for you child's belongings. The 8th graders who helped sort through the mess were very impressed with some of the "drip" they discovered. I remember how many coats, hats and gloves my boys "lost". Please come by and take a look before the next break. Snow pants and boot season is here. We have no rooms for these items.
No School on Monday, January 16th - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Warm Regards,
