Happy National Paper Airplane Day! (last week) from Mrs. Fisher's Class
Last week we had the privilege of watching the 4th graders perform in the talent show. I told the class we would 'celebrate' national paper airplane day if they were kind and respectful during their show. The students showed a lot of patience and seemed to really enjoy seeing the older kids perform. We watched this GONOODLE to learn how to make a paper airplane and then we decorated them and flew them outside. The activity actually turned into a great team building activity as we had a couple of class 'experts' who already knew how to make them. Those students were a huge help to most of us who did not know how to make them. Then, once we went outside, they all played together with their airplanes. They used kind words and encouraged one another during the whole process.

IDENTIFYING AND COLLECTING ITEMS TO UPCYCLE
Help your child’s imagination soar by having them collect and bring in clean, shareable upcycle

Diversity Alliance
May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and we’ve been celebrating here at Burton! Each May is a celebration of the contributions and experiences of Jewish Americans. Jewish American Heritage Month highlights how America’s Jewish communities have shaped and been shaped by the cultural, social, and economic fabric of the United States.
Jewish American Heritage Month is a national month of recognition of nearly four centuries of American Jewish experience. Recognized each year in the month of May by Presidential proclamation, JAHM provides an opportunity for people to learn about and appreciate Jewish heritage and reflect on the specific history and experiences of the American Jewish community, serving as an antidote to antisemitism. Click here to learn about JAHM’s history.
In our Diversity Alliance Club last week, we learned about Jewish American Heritage Month. Many of our Jewish American club members shared their personal experiences, including family traditions, holidays, travel to Israel, special recipes and dishes, and more. We also learned about many notable Jewish Americans and their contributions to our country and world. We have a poster display highlighting many of the people we learned about, which we used to share our learning with the whole school through our “Guess Who - Jewish American Heritage Month” edition game. Play along with us!

June is Pride Month! The month of June has been designated as Pride Month, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and recognizing the challenges they have faced and their contributions throughout history. It is also a time to pause and reflect upon our school’s philosophy that everyone belongs, everyone is accepted, and each person’s uniqueness should be celebrated. This is true for every one of our staff, students, and families. We see you, we value you, and we celebrate you! We’ll be celebrating all next week building-wide with a Guess Who Pride Edition game, along with posters and rainbow fun!
