DIGITAL LEARNING ANCHOR SCHOOL SHOWCASE
Throughout this school year the Digital Learning Anchor Schools have been working towards fully implementing the dispositions that are included in Determining Readiness Reflective Guide. As you recall, these dispositions support the transformation of teaching and learning and include those for leadership, teachers, students, learning environment and community. The Spring Showcase is an event where Anchor Schools will highlight work done in each of these dispositions. Schools are encouraged to bring teams of teachers and administrators to the Showcase to gather ideas that they can then use to work towards fully implementing each of the dispositions in their school. Instructional technology specialists, library media specialists and other staff members who are leaders in these efforts will receive invitations directly and are encouraged to attend. The showcase date and time are as follows:
Date: April 19
Time: Opening remarks at 5:30 p.m. followed by school exhibit visits until 7 p.m
Place:. Kellam High School
Team Trantwood - let's do this! This event will affirm your work, ignite your mind, and spark creativity. Jimmy Johns dinner on me for all those who plan to attend with our team!
A LEARNING TARGET IS...
A description of what the student is going to learn by the end of today's lesson, stated in developmentally appropriate language that the student can understand. Learning target language is framed from the point of view of a student who has not yet mastered the target and includes student look-fors--criteria that students can use to just how close they are to the target--stated in language that describes mastery (rather than grading or scoring). The learning target is connected to the specific performance of understanding for today's lesson.

SPRING REJUVENATION
One of the ways you can support students as their abilities grow is to expand the role of Academic Choice in your classroom. Letting students take more control over what and how they’re learning allows teachers to move into more of a facilitator role. Plus, it gets students more excited about what they’re learning and helps build positive energy in the classroom! To boost Academic Choice with your students:
- Offer more choices within a particular lesson. For instance, if students are comfortable with the options of writing a science report or giving one orally, you might add the choices of creating a PowerPoint presentation, drawing an infographic, or creating a game that shows what they’ve learned.
- Allow students more freedom to take on larger or longer-term projects—a multi-week research project, for example, or an ongoing book club in which they select their own books to read and discuss in small groups.
- Let students’ curiosity be your guide. Maybe your curriculum only requires you to teach about the planets in our solar system, but your students keep asking questions about meteors and comets. Invite them do their own research and present their findings to the class!
Even though this time of year can be challenging, taking steps like the ones above can help teachers keep energy and motivation high—and help you maintain the joy of teaching. And remember, what’s good for students is good for teachers, too! Make sure you’re getting enough rest, eating well, enjoying social activities, and taking breaks to stay energized. Plant the seeds of rejuvenation, and spring will be in full bloom before you know it!
