We are back at it!

And just like that, summer break is over and we are back in our school routine. Considering all of the terrible weather we have had this week, it is been a great first week of school. I appreciate everyone's patience, cooperation and understanding as we work to get the parking lot situation under control during dismissal. We have a marvelous group of students and parents and we are looking forward to an amazing school year.
On the first day of school, we had a solar eclipse! South Florida will not experience another one of these for decades. Children in OOS Grades 1 and up viewed the eclipse in a safe manner under the close supervision of staff. To tie in with the solar eclipse on Monday, Mrs. Moore's 5th grade class had a great, hands-on lesson about the phases of the moon, using Oreo cookies. Afterward, they got to eat their moons.

Ok, Mom and Dad, we have allowed everyone to wait in the cafeteria during breakfast for the 1st week, Next week, we will ask you to say your goodbyes and leave the cafeteria. There are too many people in there and it only makes it harder for the children to separate and adjust to the new routine.

Sunday School Meet and Greet

Did you know that we have Sunday School classes for all ages here on Sunday morning? We do! This Sunday, there will be a meet and greet in our auditorium beginning at 9:15AM. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please come by and visit on Sunday, and stay for church at 10:30AM. This Sunday, we will be dedicating our faculty and staff and also teachers from our congregations from other schools as well. Everyone is welcomed at our church on Sunday so if you do not have a church home, please join us.

We are only one week into the school year and we already have had great difficulty reaching parents due to wrong numbers. Fortunately, these situations were not emergencies, but what if they were? We also have had unauthorized people sent to pick up children. Please be sure that we always have your most current phone numbers and do not send people to pick up your children who are not on the list. If you do need to send a new person, call the office BEFORE they come. Part of our parking lot jam on Wednesday was due to unknown people coming to pick up children and not being willing to get out of the car and get cleared thru the office. They also become very unhappy when they are inconvenienced and can create drama in the office. We do not want drama in the office.

In lieu of Back to School Night, we are instead having a middle school parent meeting on Tuesday, August 29th (next Tuesday) beginning at 6:30PM. We do want students to attend as well. Each middle school teacher will be presenting information on his/her class and we will provide an overview of middle school life at Holy Cross in an effort to be very proactive. We want for all of our students to be as successful as possible this year. Please mark your calendar, middle school parents.

Holy Cross Instrumental Band Program

Students in 1st thru 8th grade went to a band assembly today. They learned about different instruments and how they are played and what they sound like. An enrollment form was sent home today and should be returned by Thursday if your child is interested in being a part of the school band program. Research has proven that learning an instrument is not only a fun thing to do and can be a lifelong skill, but it also improves the way the brain functions. Please give this program consideration. We are very excited about it!
