Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21)

This happens when you have a third copy of the 21st chromosome. This could also happen when your cell has had an abnormal cell division. this all affects your 21st chromosomes.

Prenatal Tests

There 2 prenatal tests for this disorder they are amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.


The symptoms are

poor muscle tone, short neck with skin left on the back, flattened facial profile, small head ears and mouth, upward slanted eyes, white spots on the colored part of eye, wide short hands with short fingers, a single deep crease on the palm, and a deep groove between the 1st and 2nd toes.

Places Affected

It is common mostly in countries where abortion is not allowed and where pregnancies are common in a later age.

How Its Inherited

It is not inherited it is a random event.

Things needed

They will need vaccinations and constant care for their whole life.

Is There A Cure

No there is not a cure but we are trying to find one.

Can You Have Kids And Will They Be Affected

It depends on if you are fertile (only 50% are) so if they are their children have a 50% chance of having it too

We know that it is the 21st chromosome that's affected and that vaccinations stop symptoms. But we don't have a cure.
