Conferences
Thank you so much for taking the time to come to Eagle for conferences. I enjoyed talking with you about your children and hope our partnership will continue to be productive and open throughout the year!
What we have been up to....
Readers Workshop
This week we started a new unit of study, Book Clubs! We learned that good readers understand main and secondary characters, changing our mental image of the setting when the setting changes, how to pace ourselves when reading with others, and how readers stop and think deeply about what kind a person a character is by noticing patterns in their actions and feelings.
Social Studies
This week we started writing our Constitutions here at school and also went to the City of Zionsville website and wrote facts about Mayor Papa and the Town Council. Mayor Papa came to Eagle on Friday and the students asked thoughtful questions to better understand his role in local government.
Zionsville History
Our lovely Sullivan Munce volunteer, Mrs. Raines, came in on Friday for our first Zionsville History lesson. The picture below was a part of the lesson when Mrs. Raines was showing the students the size of some trees in Lions Park when the pioneers had to clear land.
How Can you Support at Home
Talk with your child about what was discussed during their conference. They need to be a part of the learning process when it comes to work habits and academics.
Word Study - This week we focused on abstract nouns, which is a tricky concept to comprehend and notice in sentences.
Writing- We published our personal narratives and the students will start writing a realistic fiction story using the same narrative checklist. :)
A great visual about the importance of reading!
