Summer Professional Development for Flex Days
Important. Please read carefully.
I am trying to get information out as soon as possible as you make summer plans. This is new to us this year so it may be confusing at first. I will be getting more information at our Principal PLC net Tuesday:)
- The Summer Professional Learning offerings is linked here. This guide is in Google, so please remember you must be logged into your NISD Google account to access the guide.
- Within the guide, you will find the Core Content Institutes that are required professional learning for teachers. If teachers have confusion on which Institute to sign up for please have them contact their content coordinator for advisement.
- Teachers need to pick one (1) of the Institutes offered. Institutes are 3 hours in length
- There is a special circumstance for our 2nd grade teachers since there was a change to their schedule. If you have questions about what 2nd grade teachers should attend regarding the institute please contact an elementary coordinator.
- The guide also offers a few more options for learning throughout the summer. These options are limited because the Institutes occupy most of the rooms and coordinator time. The institutes needed to take precedence since they are required and we wanted to offer them 2 to 3 times to give teachers choice.
- Everyone should register in Eduphoria for the Institute and all other courses they plan to take.
- Everyone will be need to get twelve (12) hours of flex time this summer. Three (3) hours will come from Content Institutes
- Another six (6) hours will be earned through a campus plan for Good Friday on March 30th. (This is the same as what we did this year.)
The majority of our staff development will be offered at ENGAGE (August 1, 2, 3)
- A full list of all PD that is offered in the district by content and grade band will be communicated next week using the Professional Learning Frameworks. These will be introduced to principals at their PLC.
- Courses on the lists will be offered either during the summer or during ENGAGE.
- 1:World and ENGAGE will combined into one conference that will have options around content, pedagogy, and instructional technology.
- Teachers will be able to meet their PD needs at Engage due to the variety of sessions that will be offered.
- Required Content Institutes will not be offered during ENGAGE
Flex Day Forms will need to be completed and turned into campus principals. The Flex Day form is attached here for access, but is also linked in the course catalog. Please read through the flex day requirements and make sure you understand what is eligible for flex credit. Annual required online sessions do not apply to flex time.

It is illegal for an employee to advocate for or against the bond election during working hours or using school resources.
· Penalties for violating this provision go up to a $4,000 fine and a year in jail.
· The Texas Ethics Commission views the prohibition on using school resources for political advertising broadly. It includes direct and indirect costs. For example, political advertising should not be done using District email accounts, official school Facebook and Twitter pages, school computers, and school facilities. Speeches given at school events should be purely factual and avoid telling people to vote a particular way. Even implying that someone should vote a particular way (“Take a stand for our kids’ future.”) could be a violation of this provision.
· Information provided by school staff during working hours and/or using school resources must be purely factual.
