Wonderful Triton Families,
Happy Martin Luther King's Day!
One of the things I love about this weekend is that I always get to celebrate my birthday with the late esteemed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As I was preparing for to write this newsletter, I came across this quote from Dr. King, ""The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically, Intelligence plus character – that is the true goal of education." This is the work we do at ELM - the balance between the HEAD and the HEART. And we do this in community where we (students, teachers, parents and families) work together to produce a future generation that is hopefully better than our generation. Our actions in the present will always shape our future.
Dr. King also said, "Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality." As the nation prepares for the presidential inauguration, it is even more important than ever before that we work together to teach our children and community just how interrelated we are; that what we do NOW will be inextricably woven into our lives forever, for better or worse. This week, please take time to discuss with your child(ren) how actions, good or bad, affect all of us, and only through our collective efforts can we ensure that we act in a manner that ENHANCE our lives community, country, world and everything in it. Our collective work and conversations about TRUE COMMUNITY and what that looks like in action is something that Dr. King would be proud of.
I want to end this greeting with another quote from Dr. King:
"So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL."
Please read the entire newsletter as I changed the format slightly.
Let's have an amazing week!
Mrs. Finley

Attention Parents:
We want to include your child in our yearbook! Below are the instructions on how to submit a portrait of your child(ren) for our People section. Please note that for each child, you will need to use a unique email THAT IS IN OUR STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM in order to be able to submit a photo as the email is the identifier for each account. STUDENT EMAILS CANNOT BE USED. Please upload your photo by January 30, 2021.
What will happen if students do not submit a photo/portraits?
If we do not receive portraits, we will either use a silhouette or the ELM logo as a placeholder. We would rather not do that but at least, every student name will be in the yearbook.
What if I have more questions about the submissions?
Please email Ms. Heather Bolles at heather.bolles@sweetwaterschools.org for any questions you may have about the yearbook.
Can I still buy yearbooks?
Yes, you can still buy yearbooks. The cost is now $30.00.
WE CAN DO THIS!
