Happy Principals Day!
Principals Day is also May Day
Taking inspiration from how countries around the world celebrate May Day...here are some ideas to inspire your celebration of Principals Day.
Bulgaria
On May Day in western Bulgaria, people light fires, jump over them and make noises to scare snakes.
Consider lighting a fire at your house using the plans you wrote for an amazing end of the school year as kindling. What creative noises will you make as you scare away the demanding parents?
Italy
On May Day in Italy, in exchange for gifts (traditionally eggs, wine, food, or sweets), the Maggi sing auspicious verses to the inhabitants of the houses they visit.
Consider visiting your neighbors today and singing for toilet paper, paper towels, or any other much needed "gift" for your household
Finland
May Day celebrations in Finland center on the consumption of mead, sparkling wine, and other alcoholic beverages.
Be like Finland! Drink up! You deserve it.
Scotland
An older Edinburgh tradition has it that young women who climb Arthur's Seat and wash their faces in the morning dew will have lifelong beauty. At the University of St Andrews, some of the students gather on the beach and run into the North Sea at sunrise on May Day, occasionally naked.
Jennifer Duvall would prefer you to NOT run on the beach naked. And, well, you can't go to any Oregon beach right now anyway...so maybe just wash your face on May 1 and call it good.
