ASSOCIATION NAME CHANGE - REPOST
Over the last several years, numerous neighboring associations have changed their names to be more inclusive of ALL the members that make up their associations. As you know, ATA comprises nurses, librarians, psychologists, instructional specialists, instructional coaches, educational specialists, speech/language pathologists, counselors, and teachers. Last year, a discussion about whether ATA should join other associations in modifying its name surfaced at Rep Council. The idea received significant support from our representatives. I'd like to hear from unit members on this topic.
If you haven't done so, please take a brief two-minute survey and share your thoughts.
NEA REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY - LOCAL DELEGATE
The NEA Representative Assembly (RA) is the policy-making body of the National Education Association. Nominations are now being accepted from members to serve as local delegates to the 2023 NEA RA to be held in Orlando, Florida, from July 2nd - 6th. Delegates will propose goals and policies to determine the direction of NEA the for the following school year.
In an effort to to move ATA into fuller participation in our national organization, the ATA Representative Council in January voted to fund two delegates to the NEA RA. Funding will be at the same level allowed by CTA for state delegates, which covers most required costs for travel and living expenses.

CONTRACT ISSUES
Do you have a leaky roof after the rain? Do you need help getting your sink to work? Have you reported it, but nothing has been done? Feel like you can't do anything? Well, you can.
Our contract contains a way for unit members to address working conditions that aren't being addressed promptly. It's called a five-day letter.
In this form letter, you will describe, in full, the working condition problem. You will need to be specific and detailed as to what it is that is unacceptable. The letter indicates that you will receive a written response within 5 working days of submitting it to the administrator. The response should include a timeline for remedying the problem. Many unit members have found this an effective way to address working conditions issues.
See your site rep or call the ATA office if you have a situation that you feel warrants a five-day letter.
CTA STATE COUNCIL
Greetings ATA Colleagues,
This weekend was my first weekend as an official CTA State Council Rep. It was busy and jam-packed with committee meetings and general sessions that I was required to attend. There was also an opportunity to meet a lot of great CTA members who are passionate about advocating for our colleagues and our students in the field of education and in other pertinent matters that impact the lives of our students, families, and community.
I wanted to share the CTA report which is a culmination of all the work that our CTA colleagues have been working on throughout the year(s) to advocate for our field. Sometimes we wonder where our dues go and this reminded me that not only does it aid at our local level (ATA level) but it also helps us to make policy changes at the state and federal level as well.
If you read through the report you will see that there are committees working to make changes to Special Education, others helping retain our new teachers and colleagues in the field and many other committees addressing other important matters.
The reality is that there are many people fighting to take away money from public education! We as educators need to stay strong and advocate and organize so that this does not happen.

In solidarity,
