Field Park Principal's Update
May 22nd, 2020
Hello Field Park Families,
Let's all get outside and enjoy the gorgeous, balmy weather for this Memorial Day Weekend!
FIELD PARK UPDATES:
Third Trimester Report Cards
As the third trimester is coming to a close, we wanted to remind/clarify/note a few pertinent details regarding the communication of student progress.
Report Cards
With the shift to a longer-term remote learning experience, we opted to prioritize teaching and learning in the content areas of English Language Arts and Math. Across the district, even within these subject areas, we have prioritized specific learning targets--those that were either even more essential skills, or those that were addressed better than others in a remote learning situation. (i.e. “Must Do activities) Additionally, as a part of this shift, the content areas of Science and Social Studies became optional (“May Do”) activities for students. Throughout the course of remote learning, the special subject areas of art, music, spanish, technology and library have remained supplementary (i.e. “May Do”) opportunities.
Given this approach, the third trimester report cards will reflect the information noted above:
Student progress will only be reported in the areas of ELA and Math, and only on the prioritized learning targets. This means that some of the ELA and Math learning targets will be blank for students.
No progress will be reported in the areas of Science, Social Studies, OR special subjects.
Other Reports of Student Progress
Tiered Reading or Math Support: Students who receive support from our Reading or Math Specialists will receive progress updates with their report cards.
Special Education Goal Updates: Students with IEPs will receive goal updates via parent email, along with a copy included in their report card.
Day of Kindness Meal Update
We are so proud of all of the students who participated in the D101 Day of Kindness, and posted pictures to raise money for meals for our local first responders!
As an update, we’re excited to share that as a result, the WSPD will receive lunch and dinner from Hashstacks several days next week, and the WSFD will receive lunch several days. (This way, each first responder will receive at least one meal during one of their shifts throughout the week!) The folks at the WSPD and WSFD are so grateful and appreciative of everyone’s efforts!
Thank you to our generous parent groups for funding this worthy cause! We appreciate your support!
FAQs: Materials Pick-Up/Drop-Off on Weds., 6/3
- If you are unable to come to school to pick-up/drop-off, you are welcome to have someone else do this for you. Materials will be arranged on tables by grade/class/alphabetically by last name, and all materials will be clearly marked. Technology/other materials to drop-off for return will be left in each child's spot on the table after other materials are removed, and library books returned to a clearly-labeled bin.
- If you wish to leave a gift, note, material for return, or anything else for anyone, there will be labeled bins for each staff member and you will be able to drop-off easily.
- The doors will be propped open and there will be minimal staff (Mrs. Blum and myself!) in the gym for pick-up, so it will be easy to safely enter, exit, and grab-'n-go in a socially distant manner. Pick-up should be adults only.
- If you are not sure what specific materials your child needs to return to his/her classroom teacher, intervention specialist, resource teacher, etc. please check your email for specifics directly from that person and/or reach out!
REMINDER: End-of-the-Year Materials Pick-Up/Tech Drop-Off
As previously communicated, we will be scheduling a materials pick-up and technology drop-off on Wednesday, June 3.
Conceptually, things will look very similar to the process in March. Here are the details:
Tables will once again be set up in the GYM, labeled by class.
Student materials will be bagged and individually labeled. Along with student belongings (inclusive of locker and desk contents), parents can also expect to receive: Trimester 3 Report Cards, Advanced Placement Letters/Information, CogAT reports for 3rd/5th graders, and care instructions for students keeping tech devices (grades 3, 4, 5) over the summer.
Schedule will be as follows:
Last Names A - I from 9:00am - 10:00am
Last Names J - R from 10:00am - 11:00am
Last Names S - Z from 11:00am -NOON
Pre-K-2nd graders will drop-off iPads, Chromebooks/FlipBooks and chargers in a designated location.
Carts will be available for library book return, so please don’t forget to return borrowed library books.
We will have labeled bins for each classroom teacher/staff member, as well; if you need to return borrowed materials, drop off an end-of-the-year note or gift, or leave anything else for a teacher/staff member, you’ll have a place to do so!
We will NOT be collecting extra school supplies this year for donation, or sending home any shared/classroom school supplies; please know that we will safely and responsibly handle either the disposal/donation/re-use of these materials as we are able.
A few important guidelines, as we all work together to create as safe a situation as possible:
Please know that the materials will have been sitting in the gym, untouched, for at least 72 hours prior to pick-up.
Only the central corridor and the gym are open for access; there will not be any access to classrooms, lockers, etc.
Only one adult member of each family should plan to participate in pick-up/drop-off.
Masks are required in the building.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation with these guidelines. Please reach out with any questions.
