STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Davenport's "Green Team" Gets Busy!
Mrs. Tuthill and Mrs. Baldwin, leaders of the Green Team, used ACUA grant money to launch a school composting project. Their 3rd grade students set up composters on April 5th and filled them with composting soil, peat moss, and mulch. They have been learning about what can be composted and why it is important, and are so excited to get started!
Learning About "How We Get The Things We Need"
Mr. Adamchak, Logistics Manager from Danone North America, was a virtual guest speaker for a group of Davenport 1st grade students in his wife's ELL class this week. Mrs. Adamchak's students are currently finishing a unit on "How We Get the Things We Need." Mr. Adamchak spoke about his job in logistics, showed the class some trucks as they were being loaded, demonstrated how a forklift works, and showed safety gear that must be worn. The class learned a lot about how goods are made and shipped to the stores where we can buy them.
Bella The Bunny Visits Davenport Primary
This week in the Media Center, Mrs. Cavileer brought in a very special visitor! Students first learned about fiction and nonfiction stories and then compared the two. After reading their story, Mrs. Cavileer surprised the students with her very own bunny, Bella! The students loved learning about pet rabbits and were excited to be able to see her up close.
Real Or Myth . . . You Decide!
GT students have been studying Greek, Roman and Norse Mythology. Last week they learned about Greek mythological monsters and creatures. They read famous myths featuring each of these Greek monsters. Each student chose a mythological creature to research, then created a piece of artwork for their upcoming museum.
