Note from Principal Coln
Challenger Middle School families,
Now that we are into the second 9 weeks your child should have iReady data they can share with you at home. Have your child log into iReady and show you his/her engaged minutes for the week. Our goal is for students to work in their Individualized Learning Pathway for 50 minutes in math and 50 minutes in reading per week for a total of 100 minutes.
Read, Read, Read...Our ELA teachers have been taking their classes to the library to check out books for AR. Please encourage your child to read each night.
Our Veterans Day program is Thursday, November 10th at 1:00 in the cafeteria. We invite all parents and veterans to attend. Our choir and band will perform. PTSA is providing refreshments to any of our veterans from 12:30-1:00 in the library before our program. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
PTSA is hosting a Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch for our teachers on Wednesday, November 9. Please consider signing up to bring a dish or to help with lunchroom coverage. We are hoping to give our teachers a duty-free lunch on November 9 so they can enjoy their lunch in peace and quiet.

Congrats to our Greenpower Team
Last weekend our Greenpower team had their first race of the season at Hazel Green High and the kids did great. They had 3 cars compete, 1 in stock and 2 in modified. CMS took 1st in the stock division and 1st and 3rd in the modified division. The kids did an awesome job driving, with no wrecks, and they took the checkered flag (1st place) in both of the middle school heats.

**Impact Aid Forms**
CMS families,
Huntsville City Schools has benefited from Impact Aid funding in the previous years. As a district, we are entitled to certain federal monies, if either mother, father, or guardian of a student is employed on certain federal properties. In addition, eligibility applies if the mother, father, or guardian is on active duty in the Uniformed Services, or if they live on Redstone Arsenal or in a Federal Housing Project.
In the past, the Student Welfare Department has delivered Impact Aid Survey Forms to our school. This year is going to be slightly different. The forms are now electronic through the Parent Portal in PowerSchool. The forms will be made available to parent(s)/guardian(s) on October 20, 2022. Instructions on how to access the electronic Impact Aid form are attached below in the blue picture . If you are unable to complete the form through PowerSchool, online versions are available on the Huntsville City Schools website.Greetings,
If you are unable to access the parent portal, hard copies are available at school and the Department of Student Welfare and Social Services upon request. We are encouraging parents to utilize the parent portal to complete the form. The form will go live on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Forms are due by November 3, 2022. If you choose the paper copy option, please have your child return the completed form to the main office and we will forward it to Student Welfare and Social Services Department. Any paper copies must be sent by November 7, 2022.
Families, your participation will help assist in receiving funds which will be beneficial to our school by providing funding for textbooks, computers, and instructional materials. I am excited about this year's Impact Aid Survey Form and look forward to receiving the funding that is due to our students, school, and community.
Thank you for your time and dedication to our school and community!

Opt-In for Counseling Services
The state legislature passed House Bill 123 which requires parents of students under the age of 14 to opt-in their students into mental health and guidance services. This also includes large group guidance. On Thursday (8/4) we sent home an Opt-In Form that must be signed and returned before our guidance counselor, Ms. Hall, can speak with any students about any social/emotional concerns. She can talk to them about anything academic/career, but until we have the attached form, she is unable to speak to students about social-emotional learning (SEL) type issues unless it is a crisis (cutting/suicidal behaviors, abuse).
Ms. Hall does guidance lessons with our students throughout the year and they are SEL related. In order for students to participate in guidance lessons, we must have the Opt-In Form signed and returned.
Below is the Opt-In form that went home with students. Please read over it and decide what is best for your family. If you have any questions contact Lorie Hall.

CMS Athletics
Message from the Athletic Director
Greetings CMS Families,
If your son or daughter will be in 7th or 8th grade this year and is interested in playing a sport for one of our school teams, please go ahead and get your child registered and in Dragonfly. This site is the place where the AHSAA houses all of its paperwork for athletics. There is a document linked below with directions on how to set up an account for your child and yourself.
Additionally, go ahead and get a physical form for your child completed and signed by a doctor. If you recently had a physical done, you can just send in the form for them to complete and return to you. However, please make sure you use the form that is linked below. The state requires a particular form that is updated regularly. As mentioned, a link to the form can be found below. For those that completed one last school year, they are good for 1 year through the end of the month they were signed and dated. For example- if it was signed on August 5th, 2020, it will be good through August 31st, 2021.
Go Eagles!!!!
