Obtaining an Instrument
If you're one of the portion of the beginner band who still needs to choose an instrument, we will finalize that this week and then you can get started scoping out your options!
Percussionists see document below!
If your percussionist is in Concert or Symphonic Band - he/she should keep the percussion kit at home for practice, and bring a stick bag back and forth to school daily.
Stick bags should include at least the sticks and bell mallets from the kit, and some purchased yarn mallets.
Innovative Percussion is the brand we recommend most -- and we suggest medium hardness for mallets. See file below.
DMS Band Handbook - REQUIRED
By filling out this google form, you are digitally signing that you read and understand the band handbook agreement.
Thank you for taking the time now to prevent any potential confusion and frustration later!

A flip book holds miniature copies of the music so that students can read the music by attaching it to their instrument (instead of using a music stand). This is what students in high school use at marching band events. (You can use this same flip book all throughout high school).
A lyre is what holds the flipbook on the instrument.
See links below:
Flute flip book and lyre (these are sold together)
Clarinet lyre + Clarinet Flip Book
Saxophone lyre + Saxophone Flip Book
French horn lyre
Snare Drum lyre (don't purchase until we've assigned percussion parts)
Bass Drum lyre (don't purchase until we've assigned percussion parts)
Don't purchase one yet if your student plays horn, euphonium or tuba - we will get back with you on type! We may have enough extras in the band room for these students.
Con/Sym students fill out this form re: football games!
