Principal's Message
Dear Sabre Families,
Last week was a hectic one but very meaningful for our school community with the start of the new quarter, celebrating Métis week, raising Bully Awareness and Prevention, and closing the week with Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Speaking of the quarter system, we would like to get feedback from our Parent group.
As a review, the quarter system was brought into many jurisdictions across Alberta during the global pandemic for multiple reasons. Primarily, it allows students more entry points to come in and out of in class and online learning. Also, it lends itself to the ability of moving between scenario 1,2, or 3 should we need to shift our educational model in response to government or division directive in keeping students and communities safe.
Quarter systems are not new. In fact, schools have used this system versus the more traditional semester system in parts of the world in an effort to increase student engagement, allow for flexibility in scheduling and help improve graduation rates, as an example.

Graduation 2021:
Led by our fabulous Grade 12 Administrator Mrs. Schultz, we also had our first Grad Meeting last week.We are still very much in the planning stages and welcome your input in this process as well. Similar to the year's past and as the students would say, Grad 2021 will be epic!
Message from Mrs. Schultz:
Thank you for joining our Google Meet on Thursday, November 19. Unfortunately, Google decided to change their parameters to only allow 100 participants and we were not aware. For those that missed the meeting and would like to watch, please see the video below.
Graduation portraits have been scheduled at the school from January 25 - January 28, 2020. Bookings will happen online so please make sure to reserve your spot at www.iconexp.com or www.salcomp.ca under Quick Links and Graduation Information. There will also be additional photo bookings at ICON Photo Studio.
We are looking for feedback regarding 2021 graduation. Please CLICK HERE to fill out a quick survey.
November's grad list will be published on Friday, November 27. The list will be available on the school website and printed on posters around the school. Students need to have a plan in place to meet High School Graduation Requirements. The graduation list is reviewed 3 times this school year and is by Alberta Student Number (ASN).
Awards Ceremony:
Another important celebration of student achievement is our Awards Ceremony. Our school based Awards Ceremony for last year’s grade 10 and 11 students is set for the morning of November 27 in the theater. A link to the event’s live stream will be available through our website closer to the date. Students who will be receiving awards will be invited to join the event, please have your students check their eips.ca email. Last year’s grade 10’s will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by last year’s grade 11’s at 10:30 a.m. Students will be staggered and everything done in the planning is in line with our EIPS reentry safety document.
Should you wish to watch the livestream event, please go to our website at www.salcomp.ca
Your Future: Post-Secondary:
While we're limited in our ability to get together in person, that doesn't mean we still can't bring together a collection of post-secondary colleges and universities as well as potential employers and associations to share valuable information about post-secondary education and career planning. This year, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is taking Your Future virtual to continue sharing this important information with students and families.
Over the course of two evenings—November 24 and 25—EIPS has planned a series of short Microsoft Teams Meets with presenters from a variety of organizations and institutions. The sessions are free and open to all students in grades 9 through 12 from both EIPS and Elk Island Catholic Schools.
Event Details:
Dates: Nov. 24 and 25, 2020
Times: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Have an awesome week. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
