Safety Concerns
Dear Parents,
A big thank you for going to the back and picking up your car kids, we greatly appreciate it. It is so important, we all work together following the same rules. Safety at SLS is a top priority.
Knowing who is in the building at all times is crucial to keeping us all safe and secure. Please check-in at the office, even if you are just walking your child to the classroom or if you are only going to be in the building for a moment. We are asking this of everyone, even those parents or helpers who are here several days per week. This is so helpful! Teachers and staff are posted at each entrance, they can help and even answer quick questions if need be. If you need to see your child’s teacher, please stop in at the office and someone will call to see if they are available. If not, an appointment will be scheduled as soon as possible.
Thank you for all your help, support and dedication to make SLS a safe place.

$2,800 Brought in from PTO Dance
Another successful dance in the books! Such a fun night. Thank you to Five Lights for putting on a great show! We would like to thank Annette Swain and Linda Pulskamp for manning the front door, Chris Rudolf and Tony Griewe for handling the gaming, volunteers who helped set up and clean up and to all those who came to support a great cause - St. Louis School! ALL money made is going directly into teachers classrooms for flexible seating options.
We also have a long list of businesses to thank for their generous donations:
Batesville Liquor Co., Gibson Theater, Indianapolis Childrens Museum, Indianapolis Indians, Indiana State Museum, Perfect North Slopes, Holiday World, Cincinnati Museum Center, Purdue Women’s Basketball, Kendra Scott, Indianapolis Colts, Panera Bread, COSI of Columbus, OH, Newport Aquarium, FC Cincinnati, Casey’s General Store, Tim and Marilyn Weberding. As always, we could not do this without a lot of help and support. Thank you all!
PTO Taps Into Great Fundraising Potential With New Partnership
Back in August, SLS PTO began a new partnership with a local company, Dierckman Research, LLC as a new way to raise funds for the school.
Dierckman Research conducts market research for innovative new products to launch into the market. Projects vary depending on the client and the product or solution. Participation in a project may include a 1-on-1 conversation, expert question or discussion, and/or product use to obtain opinion and feedback.
SLS PTO benefits in two ways. First, we receive a donation for those who “opt-in” to be contacted for future projects. That’s it. Just signing up benefits the school! However, the SLS PTO saw the enormous potential this has to generate funds or our school. From August—December, we had participants in three small projects. As a result, those participants generated $3170.00 for our school!
Criteria to Join: You are NOT required to have students at St. Louis School. ANYONE between the ages of 22 - 70 years old and are within the Tri-State area (1hour radius) are welcome to “Opt-in” to be contacted for market research projects as they come up. All information is kept CONFIDENTIAL by Dierkman Research, LLC. Spread the word to family and friends and let’s increase our benefit to SLS students!
To “Opt-in” simply visit the site to complete the form https://forms.gle/nEeF1HmAuu6CrNTu8 or contact Diane Dierckman at Dierckman Research, LLC via email at: dianedierckman@gmail.com or call 513.505.3292 if you have any trouble. Thank you in advance for supporting St. Louis School!

8th Grade Entrepreneurship Project
8th Grade Entrepreneurship Project 2019-2020
The 8th graders at St. Louis Catholic School Economics class ran a business for 3 weeks prior to Christmas break. They were open for 20min in the mornings before school. They sold trinkets of all types at their shops. Some of the items were slime, scrunchies, chapstick, stickers, stress balls, Hot Wheels, and random items they didn’t want or need anymore. They ran their company using game methods for prizes, and buying out right options also. They voted on where they would like their profited money to be donated to.
This year our local Safe Passage won the vote. Mary came from Safe Passage and talked with the 8th graders a little about what they do and where their money would be used with them. They were very grateful for these 8th graders, and we are so grateful for what they do for the 6 counties they serve. Overall we donated $625 to Safe Passage this year.
Miss Trenkamp is very proud of their hard work and dedication to run a booming business.

Nurse's News
Please remember that all medication (both prescribed and over the counter) must come through the office. A medication administration form must be completed by parents (and an MD if a prescribed medication). Please do not allow your child to bring in medication or carry medication in their backpacks, all meds should be brought in by an adult. This will help to make sure other St. Louis or BCSC children will not have access to medication that does not belong to them.
Thank you for your continued support!

Animal Science Week
Our Early Learners worked with mother and baby animals this week too, learning the names for baby animals found on a farm. We also talked about the differences between animals who live on a farm and in the wild.
Animals provided a great opportunity to talk about sizing and ordering from big to little, as well as, introducing the concept of big, bigger, biggest and small, smaller and smallest.
Pre-K classes also got to see animals in action, with a visit to our Jr. High Science room with Mrs. Jones.

7th Grade SLS Boys Basketball vs. St. Barts
The 7th grade Cardinals from St. Louis took on the St. Barts Irish on Thursday, January 16th. The Cardinals played their best half of basketball in the first half leading 18 to 5. Despite getting outscored in the 2nd half the Cardinals made some key plays down the stretch to pull out the 23-20 victory! Henry Wanstrath led the team in scoring with 9 points (career high), while also collecting 4 steals, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. Christian Mack was everywhere on the floor collecting 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Adam Meer made 3 of 4 free throws to finish with 5 points along with 5 rebounds. Marc Meneses started in place of Sam Laloge who was out and played a great game. He finished with a career high 5 rebounds, and a career high 3 steals!
The Cardinals had the most steals (12) in a game they have ever had by doing a great job of anticipating. Ryan Duerstock finished with 1 point and 1 steal, while Max Amberger finished with 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
The Cardinals are back in action on Monday, January 20th when they travel to Jac-Cen-Del for the first game of the SEI tournament.

SEI Tournament 7th Grade SLS Boys vs. Jac-Cen-Del
The 7th grade Boys from St. Louis took on Jac-Cen-Del in the first round of the SEI tournament on Monday, January 20th. The Cardinals gave it everything they had and came up just short in the end losing by a score of 32-28. This game really shows how far the Cardinals have come throughout the season as they lost to this same team by 24 points earlier in the season. Sam Laloge had a career game scoring 23 points (16 in the 2nd half) while hauling in 4 rebounds and 1 block. Henry Wanstrath scored 2 points while also collecting 1 steal, and 2 assists. Santiago Schutte played some great defense collecting a steal along with making both of his free throws for 2 points. Despite not scoring, Adam Meer finished with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 assists. Max Amberger finished with 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 point. Marc Meneses played some great defense by having 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Christian Mack finished with several deflections and 3 rebounds. Ryan Duerstock also finished with 1 rebound.
The Cardinals finish the season with 2 wins and 16 losses, but most importantly made big improvements from the start of the season. They never gave up and represented St. Louis School very well.

6th Grade Girls Basketball Results
The second game was against the well seasoned St. Mary's North Vernon team. The Cardinals got in a deficit early and it was tough to pull out of. The second half showed many improvements, but it was not enough. The girls played hard, but came up short, losing 14-42. Leading scoring was Rachel Suttmann with 10 points. Karsyn Watson and Meg Ritter each contributed 2 points.

SLS 7&8 girls vs St Marys Gburg
Last night St. Louis Lady Cardinals tipped off their season with a home game against St. Mary's of Greensburg.
The 7th grade girls weren't able to get a win, but played a great first game. They ended with a final score of 9-26. Scoring for SLS were Lucy Abplanalp with 5pts, and both Maria Voegele and Kenzie Maple scoring 2pts each. Anna Moore and Ainsley Sipples were pulling down the rebounds all night long giving us the chance to put back up multiple shots, or to go run an offense. They gave it all they had and never gave up and kept a positive attitude throughout the whole game. Nice job ladies.
The 8th grade SLS girls pulled off a win for game one. Final score was 31-15. While we started off a bit slow we tried to remember game one of a season is always like this. The second half we kicked it into our game. Scoring for SLS were Clarie Saner with 10pts, Kate Weber with 9pts, Catherine Streator with 8pts, and both Ava Owens and Isabelle Wonnell scoring 2pts. We did very well at the free throw line which is always a key part to a basketball game. Several assist also led to points on offense, and playing tough all around for some steals was a vital part of the game. Way to play our game and bring home a win.
Next home game is Thursday against the Greensburg Lady Pirates.
