Mrs. Krauss ELA 9/10
Port Huron Northern High School
About Me
My name is Mrs. Krauss and I will be teaching 9th grade ELA, 10th Grade ELA, and 9th Grade Lit. Lab. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint where I majored in English and minored in history. I have a secondary teaching certificate and can teach 6-12 grade. Previously, I have taught in Detroit area schools. I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Literacy Education.
I will be periodically updating this newsletter in order to keep parents involved in our classroom!!
9th Grade News
9th graders will soon begin their unit on the "Odyssey". We will be exploring the concept of, "What is a hero?" We will be reading excerpts from the "Odyssey" along with articles on heroism. The excerpts from the "Odyssey" are located in the 9th grade textbook which will be housed in the classroom. Students are able to check the textbooks out from me if they'd like to reread or work on something at home or if students would prefer they can also have a book checked out just for them to be kept at home, but in that case I'll need to know in order to make arrangements.
10th Grade News
10 graders just finished the novel "Night" by Elie Wiesel. Next they will be completing a writing prompt exploring a concept from that book. Students will be provided with a choice of 5 writing prompts, but they only need to choose 1. A rubric will also be provided.
Next up will be their unit exploring the concept of, "Does technology harm or help our lives?" Students will be contemplating this question as they read Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451"
