My Day at Bloomberg's World Headquarters By: Kara Langbaum
On November 10, I had the honor of interviewing real world journalists from Bloomberg News: Felice Maranz, Josh Fineman, Sarah Mulholland, and Shelly Banjo. Felice M. and Josh F. write for Bloomberg First Word, which publishes short news stories. Sarah M. is a real estate reporter for Bloomberg News. Shelly B. writes opinion columns for Bloomberg Gadfly. I also had the special privilege of meeting and interviewing Michael Bloomberg, owner of Bloomberg LP, and former mayor of New York City.
While interviewing, I learned how all the journalists got to be where they are today and the different ways they achieved this. For example, Josh F. knew he wanted to be a journalist in college. On the other hand, Sarah M. wanted to do something with creative writing but never had a book idea in mind so she switched to journalism.
Also, I learned how the profession of journalism has changed. Shelly B. said that it changed in good and bad ways. A good example: there used to not be a lot of women journalists, but now there are more women. A bad example: she said that because of social media people can't trust everything they read. In contrast, Felice M. stated that journalists used to write about heroic people and that they were respected by their readers, but now people think of journalists like objects. However, all of the journalists I spoke to agreed that being in journalism is a privilege, that it is fun, and that they like it.
Lastly, I asked the reporters if they wrote for their school newspapers. Shelly B. wrote for her school newspaper in high school called The Evergreen and in college for the The Daily Northwestern. Felice M. also wrote for her school newspaper in high school called The Lance. But, Sarah M. did not write for her school newspaper and regrets it. In conclusion, I learned that journalists can come from different backgrounds, journalism has changed over the years, and the people involved all seem to enjoy it.
While I was in the Bloomberg offices, I was very lucky to meet Mayor Michael Bloomberg! I asked him what it was like to be a mayor. He said it was challenging, but it was nice to meet people. He also said that it was an honor and satisfying. Also, Mr. Bloomberg likes running a business because he likes to make decisions. He likes being involved in everything. Mr. Bloomberg told me inspirational words that I will never forget. For example, he said that if you want to be successful, you must work hard. This was an experience I will never forget!

Frosty glaze
Snowy night,
Bundle tight
Dreams awaits
Passing is the dates
Warm and snug,
Hot cocoa mug
School snow day,
Hip hip hooray!
Chanukkah lights,
Shining bright
Santa's sleigh,
Is underway
In the crowd,
Ringing loud
Joyous cheer,
For our new year!

Original Poetry by Ariana Aray
we celebrate all, which one do you?
For here at JFK we are all diverse,
we work together, yes we are first!
It's the season the season to give, and it must come from the heart,
its never too late to have a bright start.
Lets light up the candles and make them shine bright,
and bring joy and love to our hearts day and night.
Lets all be thankful for the things we have,
and remember to share to make our loved ones glad!
