AVID
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an elective class offered to freshmen through seniors that promotes college eligibility and success. It is recommended that students remain in the AVID elective for three years to reap the program’s benefits. Last year’s AVID Seniors had a 100% graduation rate with a 3.44 average GPA; 94% of them took at least 1 AP/IB Exam; and 100% planned to attend a college or university after high school.
Currently, 41 CHS AVID students are volunteers with Hartford Elementary School for PALS, a mentoring program which pairs high school and elementary students. The students meet at Hartford twice a month and engage in fun activities with their buddies.
