Spring, 2021 Update

Mission Statement

Recognizing the strong link between health and learning, OAISD health and wellness consultation and related support services aim to support schools in the implementation of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model including supporting a comprehensive PreK-12 health education curriculum, student health behavior data and analysis, assessment of the school health environment to support the whole child, and adequate access to health services including behavioral health.

New Google Handouts for Student Worksheets in MMH

Google Student Worksheets for the High School Skills for Health and Life curriculum and MMH Middle School modules have been completed and are available currently. If you are interested in gaining access to the MMH Google Student Worksheets, please fill out the "MMH Google Student Worksheets Agreement Form" for your desired grade levels. Once approved, your access to a Google Spreadsheet(s) with links to access the worksheets will be shared with you.

MiSHCA is bringing 3 webinars that support Whole Child programming. These webinars are FREE of charge and are recorded so you can view at a later time if you are unable to make it.

March 9, 2021: Suicide Prevention Basics for School Staff

Speaker: Angela Blood Starr, Regional School Health Coordinator, Calhoun ISD


This session addresses risk and protective factors for suicide, myths and facts, suicide statistics and warning signs for suicide and depression. The material is presented through the lens of school staff and their engagement with preventing youth suicide.

May 11, 2021: The Effects of Overall Health on Student-Athletes, Coaches, & Parents During the Pandemic

Speaker: Travis Neller, Prevention Specialist, Eaton RESA


This session will breakdown how the pandemic has affected student-athletes, coaches, parents and fans mentally, physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially. Quotes from people affected will be provided as well as research pertaining to the pandemic.

Become a Threat to Inequity

Designed for educators in the Ottawa Area ISD, these virtual, self-led courses will expose you to the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion and how to be a threat to inequity within your sphere of influence. The courses are free to 500 OAISD educators. Link to Register

Michigan Virtual: Social-Emotional Learning: Introduction to SEL

Many educators find it challenging to meet the social and emotional needs of their students to help them succeed academically. This introductory course provides an insight into social-emotional learning and a pathway to the initial steps of integrating SEL into your school district.


In this course you will:


  • Define Social and Emotional Learning
  • Understand ways in which SEL can increase a student's capacity to learn
  • Outline the five competencies of SEL
  • Review SEL standards and benchmarks to apply to your school and classroom
