Learning Grant Information Session to be held next week
Last week, the Virginia Department of Education announced they are now accepting applications from parents for tutoring microgrants for their children. The K-12 Learning Acceleration Grants program offers $1,500 grants to parents of school-age tutoring in English, mathematics, science, and history, as well as foreign languages needed to meet diploma requirements. Children from homes with family incomes at 300% or less of the federal poverty level may qualify for $3,000 grants. Grants may also be used for support services such as speech language pathology and reading interventions.
Danville Public Schools will be hosting three virtual information sessions on Thursday, May 18 for parents to learn more about this opportunity. The sessions are listed below with the Zoom link.
Bonner students visit DC
Since coming to Danville Public Schools, Mrs. Haney had a dream - to facilitate a field trip to Washington D.C. That dream came true on May 6th when 30 eighth grade Bonner AG/Honors students and chaperones loaded up on a charter bus to go to Washington D.C.- not to see the traditional DC sites - but to experience the Tour the World Embassy Day. Once a year, over 50 embassies open their doors to the public to learn about their countries, their culture, their popular products, and some let attendees try their food. The event had been canceled for the past three years due to COVID so we were excited to see the event return this year. The lines were long - some taking over an hour to tour the embassies but the attendees had fun. Some of the embassies toured included South Korea, Kenya, Chile, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and China. Mrs. Haney wants to thank those individuals who gave generous donations to make this field trip possible.
