Blanton Teacher of the Year

We are proud to announce that Mrs. Michele Branch (4th grade) has been named Blanton Teacher of the Year. This is Mrs. Branch's 11th year at Blanton. Mrs. Branch is passionate about teaching children to become strong readers and writers. She believes that building relationships is key to helping students grow. Any student who has ever had Mrs. Branch as a teacher will tell you that she is friendly, engaging, and they appreciate her holding them accountable for their own learning. Her colleagues know that she is a learner and willingly shares what she has learned through research or attending staff development.

Mrs. Branch will be Blanton's nominee for the Denton ISD Teacher of the Year. We wish her all the best as she moves forward in this process. She will be honored at the district level later this spring.

Community Night of STEAM

Blanton students and staff will be a part of the Community Night of STEAM on January 28 at the Greater Denton Arts Council. We love the STEAM activities we do and skills we build at Blanton and will have the opportunity to share this with our greater Denton ISD community on this night.

What are the goals?

  • To provide our students a platform to demonstrate their STEAM knowledge and guide others in completing activities and challenges.
  • To allow members from throughout our community to see the fun things that go along with STEAM learning.
  • To provide educators the chance to try out new resources, get inspired, and get connected.
  • To have fun!!!

We have several groups of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who will be leading activities that evening. There are groups from other Denton ISD schools and a TWU group as well! If your student is leading an activity that evening, we will be so excited to see you there! If your student is not leading, we want you and your students to come and join in on the STEAM fun, too! Please see the image below to get more information about this exciting event.

Questions? Please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Krutka at kkrutka@dentonisd.org.

EXPO Referrals for Spring

Denton ISD's program for Gifted and Talented students is called EXPO. Gifted and talented students are those who excel consistently or who show the potential to excel in general intellectual ability, specific subject matter aptitude, and creative and productive thinking. These students require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Students are identified through the use of multiple criteria specified by our district.

The spring semester referral deadline for EXPO is February 11th. Forms are available in the main hallway or on Mrs. Turner's website. We encourage you to contact Mrs. Turner if you have any questions.

Honor Choir News

Our Honor Choir group of 10 students had their first area practice this week. They practiced along with 60 students from the South side schools of Denton ISD. The students performed a difficult 6th grade level repertoire and represented their schools in their practice and performance. We look forward to their concert on February 21st, 2020 at Ryan High School.
