COVID Protocols
We also understand that not every symptom is COVID-related. If your child experiences allergies or asthma, they may have symptoms and will not need to stay home due to these symptoms. The County Health department website shares that:
"Many school age children will have symptoms of runny nose throughout the school year due to a range of conditions. It would be unlikely for a child to experience runny nose as the only symptom of COVID-19, and preventing children with only a runny nose from going to school would likely lead to unnecessary school absences. If a child has a runny nose but no other symptoms of COVID-19, it would be reasonable to allow that child to go to school, provided the child does not develop any other symptoms of COVID-19 and is not a close contact to a COVID-19 case."
If you have any questions about whether or not your child is safe to attend school, please reach out to us!
Quarantine Procedures
Please keep in mind that the Public Health Department has updated their quarantine policies for this school year.
Close contacts can continue to attend in-person instruction if:
They are asymptomatic
They continue to wear appropriate masks
Take a COVID-19 test at least twice during the 10 day period
Continue to quarantine from all other extracurricular activities at school (which would mean no participation in YMCA)
For Students Only: If any party was unmasked, the quarantine can be reduced from 10 to 7 days if 1st COVID test (on the 5th day) is negative.
Here is the quarantine decision tree from the Public Health Department:
Masks
However, many students (especially our younger students) tend to need a mask switch after lunch. It would be great if you could get in the habit of packing a spare mask in your child's bag (and let them know where it is and what it is for) so that they can get a new mask if their mask gets wet or dirty.
Dismissal
Please remember to put your orange sign in your dashboard if you are driving and have your yellow parent badge if you are walking to help us expedite the process and ensure students are safely matched with whomever is picking them up.
Thank you for your support and patience in navigating this new system!
Blue Folder
Every Wednesday we will send the blue folder home if there are papers that need your attention!
We are still missing some of the pink emergency cards from students. Please be sure to check your child's backpack and complete this form ASAP.
Today we also sent home a blank uniform order form for anybody wishing to purchase school uniforms.
Uniform Sales
Our Parent Leader Group will fulfill these orders from our new shipment of uniforms and will send them home with your child.
In addition, members of our Parent Leader Group will be available before school from 7:30am-8:00am on Tuesday, August 31st right in front of our main gate entrance in front of the mosaic. Please plan on visiting that day or sending your child with money to purchase uniform.
White polo shirt
Gray polo shirt
Blue LUCHA t-shirt
Kimochis - Meet Lovey Dove
This week your child met Lovey Dove. Lovey is our Kimochis character that teaches compassion, kindness, and friendliness. Lovey always reminds us to be friendly to everyone on the school campus, not just your close friends. Ask your child about Lovey to learn more about the helpful qualities this Kimochis character can bring to your entire family
Technology Collection
Our teachers are ensuring that your students are set up successfully on devices at school and will soon start taking them home for digital homework. If your child has a personal device at home that can be used for homework, they do not have to take a school device home (but they will be issued one to use while at school).
We are asking ALL students to bring headphones to school on a daily basis. These are items that can not be shared, so please ensure your child brings these in!
After School Program
We will be adding one more class next week starting on Tuesday, August 31st and another class starting the following week.
Our new site director, Danery Cervantes, will be following up with parents to alert you of when your child will be able to start. If you have any questions, feel free to contact her directly at danery.cervantes@ymcasv.org or (408) 708-6124.
Back to School Night
This year's Back to School Night will once again be virtual. Teachers will host Zoom sessions with their families at 6pm. We will do this over two nights so that parents who have multiple children can attend each child's session.
TK, Kinder, 1st, and 2nd Grade - Tuesday, September 7th at 6pm
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade - Wednesday, September 8th at 6pm
Our goal is for 100% parent participation as we want to ensure everyone understands the structures that will be used to support your child this year at LUCHA. Please do your best to attend and let us know if you need any support in getting on Zoom!
In Loving Memory: Desi Andrade
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former beloved custodian, Desiderio Andrade, aka “Mr. Desi”.
Not only was Mr. Desi an incredibly hard worker who went above and beyond in his role as custodian at LUCHA, but he also had a strong connection to our school community. His joyfulness and playful nature made him well-loved by all!
Although Mr. Desi retired a few years ago, he maintained a connection with our school and will truly be missed!
Thank you for gifting us with your wonderful energy, Mr. Desi! Rest In Peace!
A GoFund me has been started by Desi's family to assist in funeral expenses. Should you want to contribute or share: https://gofund.me/473b6a40.
