Lincoln Middle School
September 3, 2022
We had a great week at Lincoln this week! I want to thank you all for attending our Back to School Night and partnering with us in your child's education. It was so great to see so many parents in the building, and we appreciate your engagement with us. I also want to thank you for ensuring your children arrived at school on time for MAP testing throughout the past two weeks. It is very much appreciated!
Below you will find a series of updates about the happenings at Lincoln along with some extracurricular opportunities for your child(ren). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend!
Sincerely,
Eric Larson

- The expectation is the environment is conducive to collaborative work. This does NOT mean the library is silent, but respectful and welcoming for all students.
- Chromebook use is allowed, provided it does not disrupt others.
- The use of headphones is encouraged for anything that can be disruptive to others.
- Cell phone use is allowed with permission.
- Students should not be arriving after 3:00 pm without a pass from a teacher.

Information From LRC Director, Mrs. Walsh
Young Adult (YA) Literature
Lincoln’s library collection has been carefully cultivated to reflect our community’s demographics and changing world. Lincoln’s LRC Director, Mrs.Michelle Walsh, selects multicultural, award-winning, and popular children’s and teen novels. YA novels are often featured in our collection.
What is a YA novel?
YA novels transition between children and adult novels. These may include friendship, first love, relationships, and identity. Some focus on the specific challenges of youth and may be referred to as “coming of age” novels. They may contain more mature themes and language.
Lincoln’s Check Out Rule on YA Novels
At this time, Lincoln is asking parents or guardians to please notify Lincoln’s LRC Director, Mrs. Michelle Waters-Walsh if you DON’T wish for your student to read YA materials.
Student Self-Checkout
In preparation for high school and beyond, Lincoln DOES empower students to self-checkout materials.

School Safety Drill | September 14
Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. On Wednesday, Sept. 14, we will be practicing a lockdown drill with the Mount Prospect Police Department. This is a required school drill that all schools must conduct each year. The lockdown drill will entail the following:
- A lockdown will be announced to the students.
- Staff will lock classroom doors.
- Staff will gather students silently into an area of the room that is the furthest away from doors/windows.
- Students and staff will remain silent.
- Lincoln administration and officers from the Mount Prospect Police Department will travel around the building to check for compliance.
- An announcement will be made to end the lockdown drill.
We appreciate your support as we seek to create a safe environment at Lincoln. Please feel free to contact Lincoln administration if you have any questions or concerns.
A Message From Prospect High School
Prospect High School continues to experience discipline issues with unsupervised, pre-high school age students at football games. While we are excited to have future Knights support our football team, dance team, cheer team, and band, safety is our highest priority at all times. Please adhere to the following:
- Pre-high school age students will only be admitted with their parent/guardian. Groups and drop offs are NOT allowed. Pre-purchased online tickets will NOT be honored nor refunds granted for individuals not meeting this criteria.
- Pre-high school age students must sit with their parent/guardian.
- Parental/guardian notification will occur if pre-high school age students are unsupervised and/or creating behavioral issues.
Thank you for your continued support of Prospect HS and your partnership in creating a safe game day atmosphere for all guests.
Sincerely,
Prospect High School Administration
