Principal's Message
August 23, 2022: Athletics and Sportsmanship
Dear DHS Families, students, and staff,
This past Friday at the home football game against Flowery Branch High School, our students sitting in the 'student section' did not show behavior that is indicative of being a Decatur High School Bulldog. There was spitting on the opponents band, pulling plumes from their hats, making sexual comments about their majorettes, alcohol possession and consumption, fighting and destruction of property. These behaviors are NOT who we are as members of the DHS PACK!
There will be changes made to the 'student section' at home games starting immediately. Mr. Thomas, Mr. Harbin and I met on Monday to discuss the implementation of these changes. Below are the changes we discussed as well as reminders about student behavior at athletic and school events:
- We are going to be limiting the capacity of the bleachers to the maximum capacity deemed appropriate by the manufacturers.
- Students will only be allowed to sit on the bleachers, not stand on the top of them.
- There will be closer supervision of our students by the game staff.
- There will be a ZERO tolerance policy for any jeering, lewd comments, disrespectful language or gestures made at the opposing team and/or referees, or any unsportsmanlike behavior.
- NO bags will be allowed into the stadium.
- The CSD Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices is still in place for all students who attend school events. This means that no alcohol or drug use and/or possession, no fighting, and no weapons will be tolerated.
Consequences for any of the above behaviors will be immediate expulsion from the game, consequences per the CSD Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices, and possible expulsion for all athletic events for the remainder of the school year.
Parents/Guardians, thank you in advance for helping support us as we continue to make DHS the best high school in the state! We can and we will do better because we ARE Decatur Bulldogs and we are part of the PACK - purposeful, accountable, connected and kind!
