Visual Perception Lab
Are you interested in getting an advanced degree in Psychology? Would you like to learn more about Psychology research? Do you want to get some great lab experience while building your resume? Then become a research assistant in the Visual Perception Lab!
Visual perception is so amazingly effortless and immediate that it might be difficult to fully realize the complexity of the underlying processes. We study these processes in order to better understand the seamless fashion in which we perceive our visual world. Our investigations cover many areas of visual perception, including Figure-Ground Segregation, which describes the processes by which people separate objects in the world from their backgrounds. Using Figure-Ground Segregation and other visual processing phenomena, we examine many facets of visual perception, including how it can be influenced by attention, memory, and context.
Working in our lab is a great opportunity as students are encouraged to become involved in multiple levels of research. Student RAs have the opportunity to design experiments, create stimuli, run subjects, and analyze data. We ask that students take 3 units of credit for a 9hr per week, two semester commitment. Please email Rachel Skocypec (rachelskocypec@email.arizona.edu) if you are interested in hearing more about the Visual Perception Lab and setting up an interview.

Greenberg Social Psychology Lab -Research Assistant
Contact: Peter Helm (phelm@email.arizona.edu)
Number of positions: 1-2, for Fall 2017
Our research focuses on motivations of human behavior in the context of social interactions with others. Specifically, we are interested in how our unconscious fears and insecurities motive behavior in relation to emotion regulation, stereotyping, meaning, and self-esteem. Terror Management Theory (TMT) inspires much of our research, which is a broad theoretical perspective on deep-seated existential concerns underlying human behavior.
Research assistants will be involved in multiple aspects of the research processes including learning experimental procedure, running participants in experiments, and entering and interpreting data. This is an excellent opportunity for serious students interested in pursuing a psychology career. This is not a paid position. This will count as a three-credit course and require approximately 9 hours of work a week. For more information, please contact Peter Helm at the email address listed above.
