Physical Science

Syllabus 2015-2016

"whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord, not men." Col. 3:23

Welcome to Middle Tennessee Christian School’s physical science class! During the next year, you will have the opportunity to increase your current knowledge and understanding of the physical sciences. You will learn how science affects you and your surroundings every day and how the world around you is organized. Physical science is demanding, so I request that you do your best to participate during the course and inquire about class concepts. This class helps meet the lab science prerequisite for admission to many local colleges.

Your success is my concern, and I will do everything I can to help you meet your goals. By being on time, following the rules, coming to class prepared and ready to learn, participating in class activities, and respecting your fellow students, you will guarantee a wonderful experience in my classroom.

Goals:

  • Students will understand the broad meaning of Physical Science and how processes around us relate to one another.
  • Students will build and expand on skills such as: studying, organizing, inquiring, thinking, speaking, and scientific writing.

Grading:

Homework, Quizzes 25%

Labs (weekly) 25%

Tests (usually every 2 weeks) 50%

Classroom Policies

  • All rules from the student handbook should be followed in this classroom
  • NO CELLPHONES are allowed in class. They will be taken until the end of the class on the first offense, and turned into the office after that.
  • Be IN your seat when the bell rings. After 3 tardies (excused or unexcused) each quarter, student will have detention.
  • Students will be dismissed by the teacher, not the bell.
  • Be prepared each day with iPad (charged), composition book, writing utensil, and stylus.

Policy Violation Consequences

  • First offense, verbal warning
  • Second offense, parent phone call
  • Third offense, detention
  • Fourth offense, meeting with Mr. Miller

Make Up Policy

Due to technology, students can always check RenWeb and Edmodo to see what they missed due to an absence. Students have 3 days to make up work that was assigned the day they missed. After the three days, the grade will be a zero. If a student misses any day around a test, the student will be expected to take the test on the day he/she returns. Students are always aware of a test at least one week ahead of time. I highly recommend a good attendance record for a class like Physical science.

Required Materials

  • iPad
  • composition book
  • stylus
  • writing utensil

Late Work

Each day that a student is late on an assignment, there will be a 25% deduction from his/her graded work. After 3 days, the student will receive a permanent zero for the assignment. With Edmodo/RenWeb, there should be no reason for late work.
