Dear Vista Springs Families


It was another week of some wonderful learning experiences online and it’s another week full of things to be grateful for! I was able to pop into many classes. One day, Dr. Hermsmeyer, the Superintendent of Springs Charter Schools, joined me and we saw some truly excellent and inspiring teaching and learning going on. Thank you to teachers and parents working together for the benefit of our children’s education!


Here are some other tips and updates:


  • Gratitude is ongoing with Teacher (and ACE) Appreciation Week! May 4-8th

    • Next week, May 4-8, is the week to show your students’ teachers and ACE classroom assistants your love and appreciation! They have worked hard and continue to learn leaps and bounds about online learning to make this learning from home situation the best it can be.

    • We have a fun flyer with ideas for you to do for your teacher each day of the week--

      • Monday - Take a picture with flowers you would give to your teacher.

      • Tuesday - Type a poem or a letter to your teacher telling them how much you appreciate them.

      • Wednesday -Draw your favorite memory with your teacher/class

      • Thursday - Make a poster or sign & decorate it with a lot of love and smiles!

      • Friday - Send a video of you telling us what your teachers mean to you or how they make you feel.


  • May 4-22- iReady Diagnostic Assessments coming up

    • We are going to be conducting assessments soon for students and we need your support! We want to give students a chance to show themselves, you their parents, and their teachers that despite all that has happened this year, they still learned and grew a lot this year! I am seeing some amazing examples of student achievement during this time and look forward to seeing more evidence of that!

    • Assessment data will also help us prepare for next school year, so that we may identify what our priority focus should be when we return to campus.

    • Students will complete the assessments on their chromebooks at home and using iReady, which they have been using all year. Teachers will do it with them on a live online session.

    • Here is a video for parents with more information and please see the attached letters below for more information. Contact your student’s teacher for specific details, days and times.

    • Contact me with any questions, concerns or if you do not want your student to be assessed-- sarah.adams@springscs.org.



  • 8th grade and Kinder Promotion- We will not be returning to campus or be able to gather in large groups for the foreseeable future, so we are planning a virtual ceremony that we will stream live on zoom, June 11th at 11am. Your student’s teacher will be in touch but here are some things we need from you:

    • Picture of your student, landscape or horizontal position so it’s wide not tall, and set to high resolution

    • Make sure it’s with good lighting, preferably outside with greenery or a nice background

    • Deadline to submit pictures is Monday May 11th. Email them to me (sarah.adams@springscs.org and Ms. Jeni (jeni.magner@springscs.org) your picture directly *if you ordered a promotion picture for your student, we will use that

    • Photo release - if you had selected “No” to the photo release question on your student’s original school application, we will be in touch to see if you want your student’s picture to be part of the ceremony


  • New Pandemic EBT card for families that qualify for free or reduced lunch. California announced a new benefit this week, a $365 EBT card for qualifying families (regardless of whether you actually get lunch or not). Here is the link: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/home/pandemic-ebt


  • Thursday 12:30, Weekly hangout for parents - Join Ms. Sarah on a weekly hangout to hear any updates with the school and how learning is going, ask any questions or share any ideas or concerns you have, or simply get some support and encouragement from other parents. You all are doing a lot right now and trying to make sure your kids are learning at home can be hard! Join us for encouragement, venting or simply a place to check-in and share ideas each week. Conversation in Spanish and English.

Estimadas familias de Vista Springs


¡Fue otra semana de maravillosas experiencias de aprendizaje en línea y es otra semana llena de cosas por las que estar agradecido! Tuve la oportunidad de estar presente en muchas de las clases virtuales. Un día, la Dra. Hermsmeyer, la Superintendente de las Escuelas Autónomas de Springs, se unió también a las clases y vimos una enseñanza y un aprendizaje verdaderamente excelente e inspirador. ¡Gracias a los maestros y padres que trabajan juntos para el beneficio de la educación de nuestros hijos!


Aquí hay algunos otros consejos y actualizaciones:


  • ¡Semana de Apreciación / Gratitud a su Maestro (a) (y ACE)! Del 4 al 8 de mayo

    • ¡La próxima semana, del 4 al 8 de mayo, es la semana para mostrarles a sus maestros y asistentes de clase (ACE) su amor y aprecio! Han trabajado duro y continúan aprendiendo a pasos agigantados sobre el aprendizaje en línea para hacer de este aprendizaje, desde el hogar, sea lo mejor posible.

    • Tenemos un volante divertido con ideas, para ud o su estudiante, por hacer para su maestra/o cada día de la semana:

      • Lunes: toma una foto con flores que le darías a tu maestra/a.

      • Martes: escribe un poema o una carta a tu maestra/o diciéndole cuánto la/lo aprecias.

      • Miércoles - Dibuja tu recuerdo favorito con tu maestro/a o de la clase

      • Jueves - ¡Haz un póster y decoralo con mucho amor y sonrisas!

      • Viernes: envía un video contándonos qué significa tu maestra/o para ti o cómo te hacen sentir.


  • Del 4 al 22 de mayo: próximamente se realizarán las evaluaciones de diagnóstico de iReady

    • ¡Pronto realizaremos evaluaciones para los estudiantes y necesitamos su apoyo! Queremos darles a los estudiantes la oportunidad de mostrar, a ustedes, sus padres y maestros, que a pesar de todo lo que ha sucedido este año, ¡han estado aprendiendo y creciendo mucho! ¡Estoy viendo algunos ejemplos asombrosos de logros estudiantiles durante este tiempo y espero ver más evidencia de eso!

    • Los datos de evaluación también nos ayudarán a prepararnos para el próximo año escolar, para que podamos identificar cuál debe ser nuestro enfoque prioritario cuando regresemos al campus.
