Principal's Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Clark
September 6, 2018
Dear Parents,
It was so nice to welcome all the children back to our SKD family this week along with seeing their smiling faces. There has been much excitement around our school this week, and the students are getting right back into the swing of their school routine.
This school year we will focus on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. When we embrace the graces and gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit, we grow as followers of Jesus. We see the effect of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives in special qualities and attitudes that we develop as we grow in our faith. The 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit are signs that the Holy Spirit is alive within us and helping us live the Catholic faith in our daily lives.
During the month of September, we celebrate the fruit of the Holy Spirit called KINDNESS. Each day we ask our Lord to help us to demonstrate kindness everywhere we go. We ask Him to help us to show others, the love and kindness that He shares with us each and every day.
Let us remember, "If we teach Jesus' example of kindness, then our children will become more considerate of the presence of Christ in others.”
God’s blessings,
Ms. Clark
SKD School Board
As you may already know, the purpose of our SKD School Board is to promote and advance the mission of our school. The board collaborates with the pastors and works in partnership with the principal in ensuring that our school fulfills its mission. This Board of Limited Jurisdiction makes decisions concerning development, marketing, finances, enrollment, and facilities. As the board enters its fourth year, there have been some changes.
We are deeply grateful to our Board Chairperson, Mrs. Terri Michel, for her commitment for the past three years. Mrs. Michel was an asset to our first school board and helped us in so many ways. We thank her for bringing her passion, intellect, insight, experience, and resources to our board and SKD. Mr. Frank Lynch, current board member, will now serve as our Board Chairperson. We are grateful to Mr. Lynch for accepting this role and for his continued commitment to Catholic education and our mission.
We are also very appreciative to Mr. James Kelly, who served on our board and led our development committee as chairperson. Mr. Kelly dedicated his time, talent, and treasure to ensure success with our school's annual fund. Mr. Edward Shannon, current board member, will now serve as our development committee chair. Mr. Shannon is committed to our school and its future.
The following members have joined our board last spring: Mary Harkins, Mark Arcidiacono, and Joseph Gnias. Our new members bring a diverse of backgrounds and expertise to our school board, but most importantly they believe in Catholic education! We welcome them, and thank them for saying "yes" to this big task aside from all of the many other things that they do, including their own careers and their own family and social lives.
We thank God for ALL of our board members- past and current- thank you for your service, your loyalty, your leadership, and your guidance.
Back to School Nights
We request that at least one parent of every child be present for this important meeting. Children are not to be present for this meeting.
Lunch Monitors- Help Needed
Student Safety First
Please enter the morning drop-off car line with caution. The morning drop off is an express line; parents may not stop and get out of their cars. Students must exit from the PASSENGER SIDE only. Students MUST be ready to exit the car once pulling into the car line drop-off in order to eliminate back-up traffic. DO NOT DRIVE OUT OF THE CAR LINE. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE LINE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO EXIT.
If you need to bring your child into the school building, you MUST park your car in the front of the school and enter through the main school entrance. You must report to the office. No cars are permitted to park or idle in front of the school in the fire lane.
Raptor Visitor Management System
The Raptor System, which is used in many school districts including Council Rock, is a visitor management system. This system will better allow us to track visitors, volunteers, student late arrivals and early dismissals, and provide us with a more monitored environment for our students and staff. Please see the attached letter in your email regarding NEW procedures when visiting our school.
Attendance
Late Arrivals
Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. This teaches our students respect and courtesy along with an understanding of the importance of being on time. When a child is late, it disrupts the morning routines of the classroom and often the child becomes overwhelmed.
