What makes FDES unique?
FDES is a small but dynamic school. We have a diverse population which helps us to celebrate our status as a Global School. We also offer a wide variety of experiences to all students. Some of the things students at FDES have access to are:
- A Dual Language program that focuses on teaching content in English as well as Spanish. This program is a PK-4th grade program that continues on to DMIS.
- We are a Global School which means we put an additional emphasis on promoting cultural understanding and acceptance.
- All students in grades K-4 visit our STEAM lab once a week to engage in hands on projects that promote cooperation, critical thinking, problem solving, and more.
- Our gifted students have access to a gift program on a daily basis, which is taught by Ms. Cusick, who is locally endorsed as a gifted teacher.
- This year WPS has embraced a new program that allows schools to add the position of MCLs. MCL stands for Multi-Classroom Leaders and in these potions teachers are able to promote the success of students beyond their classrooms. MCLs work to support teachers in planning, data analysis, and pacing. They also work with students to support them in small group instruction. MCL's work closing with the instructional coach on a daily basis and together they make a supportive and essential instructional leadership team.
Happening at FDES
STEAM Night and Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who came to STEAM night in February. We had a great turnout. Both students and parents enjoyed several activities that helped understand the fun and important of math and science. Our teachers loved seeing our families and we were able to take advantage of our partnership with the Discovery Museum who helped us host the event.
I also want to thank everyone who donated to the fourth grade field trip to Jamestown. This is the first year we have done any fundraising to help pay for this field trip. We are proud to say that we took this approach after it was suggested by students. Many students in fourth graders expressed that they should help pay for the field trip. We love this sense of ownership and responsibilities on the part of our students.
!!!GREAT JOB FOURTH GRADERS!!!
