What's Happening at STE?
From the Principal's Desk
As stated in our last newsletter, I am thrilled to have Mr. Ben Lavalier and Mrs. Lucy Hope coming to our school two days a week while I am out. They have both come to observe in our building, meeting people and learning how we do things here. They are excited and I am thrilled about all the expertise and experience they have to share with us here!
Please feel free to email me at anytime!
Gratefully,

Spring Break
After School Science/Art Club!
Hello Sutton Parents!
We’ve made it to Spring Quarter! My name is Mariah McNamara. A little about me: I was raised in Sutton and hold a degree in Environmental Education. In 2019, I moved back to Alaska and have been working at Sutton Elementary as a substitute since. This upcoming spring quarter I am excited to lead an outdoor based science club as an afterschool option, Monday and Wednesday, for grades K-5. Mondays will be for grades K,1, and 2 while Wednesdays will be for grades 3,4, and 5. During these weeks, we will spend time exploring the outdoors around our school, creating beautiful art projects, playing with science experiments, and generally learning more about the plants, animals, and land from where we live. I hope to see some of your children there! This club will begin Monday, March 22nd!Yeti Ski!

In P.E., we have enjoyed a number of different activities. Many of your students have participated in badminton as an afterschool activity. With badminton coming to a close, I have had some requests from other students to o badminton during P.E. We will begin doing this unit after spring break. We have also talked about heart health and how to keep our hearts healthy and strong. The children are learning that good nutrition, plenty of rest and regular activity is important. After we return from spring break we will continue learning about good nutrition.
Our Schoolwide Spring HEALTHY FUTURES CHALLENGE will continue through the months of March and April. Your children will be bringing home their GREEN Health Futures log for the month of March. Please help remind them to keep track of all the fun, active things they do each day. I reminded the children that all of their afterschool activities count towards their 60 minutes a day. I continue to look forward to seeing all of our Sutton students participating in this spring challenge.
Please remind your children that they need to wear their P.E. shoes in the gym.
In Music, during the month of February, we learned about the Composer Johannes Brahms and a little bit about Hungarian Dance music. We are concluding our unit it on African Drumming this week. The students have enjoyed learning many of the different rhythms, patterns and the drums importance in African Culture.
Thank you for encouraging your children to try their best in music and P.E.!
Library books can be turned in any day of the week! We love to see those books come back so they can find new books and authors to enjoy. We have continued to learn about Digital Citizenship in library. I hope your students having been sharing with you the things they have learned.
Thank you again for sharing your children with me each day! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
Happy spring!
Ms. Fisher :)
