PTO Family Fun Night

We are so excited about our Family Fun Night coming up next Friday, October 22nd! We have so many fun things planned for our Potter Gray families! We truly can't do it without your help, so please sign up for a short volunteer shift to help things run smoothly!!!

Here are the sign ups for each grade for Family Fun Night!

To make the Family Fun Night Cake Walk a HUGE success and fun for all we need donations!Please send in any and all types of baked goods starting Tuesday of next week. These can be store bought or homemade. Examples are whole cakes of all shapes and sizes, brownies (they can be cut up or in a disposable tray), cookies, donuts, cake pops, and more!!

We would also like to have an allergen friendly candy option for students with food allergies. These will be kept on a separate prize table for kids with specific food allergies. Examples of candy for this would include boxes or bags of Wonka candy, mega size pixie sticks, large carnival like suckers, anything fun and different that is egg, peanut, and tree nut free!!

You may send donations with your child to school OR drop off in the front office starting Tuesday until Friday.

Please contact:

Rachel Pendleton- 270-991-7224 with any questions OR if you have contacts with a company that could make any food donations for the cake and candy walk.

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Field Trip

All students at Potter Gray will be going on a field trip to Need More Acres Farm on October 21st, to introduce them to the hands-on processes of plant life/nutritional cycles/and real-life farming processes. The cost of the trip for students is $8.00. Students will participate in the following activities:

Plant your own lettuce plants to take home

Feed the cow

Walk the vegetable fields

Eat pumpkin bread and Chaney’s milk

Make your own “meal kit” to take home and prepare with your caregivers

Parent / Teacher Conferences

This year's parent / teacher conferences will be held from Oct. 18-28th. Your child's teacher will reach out to you through dojo, newsletter, or through another form of communication to let you know how their grade level will be conducting their conferences. We know there are many siblings in different grades, as well as parents who work different shifts during the day so we want to be flexible to allow all of our parents the opportunity to sit down with the teacher to discuss your child's successes. Please be on the lookout for further information.

Kid Catering

Do you have time during the school day to come spend time helping in our lunch room? You have the opportunity to volunteer during the day and help take care of our students at lunch. If you have an hour or two to help during the day, please see our sign-up form a this link:

Weather and Student Clothing

As the weather changes and we add layers of clothes, we would like to remind parents to put either the initials or names of their child inside each jacket, sweatshirt, hat, coat, etc. We know that students will leave clothing items around campus on a daily basis. It is a HUGE help for the staff to be able to get the clothing items back to the students in a timely manner if we know who they belong to. Thank you for your help with this!

Potter Gray & BGISD Attendance Policy

Below is an outline of our school and district's attendance policy. Instructional hours at Potter Gray are from 8:00am-3:00pm. If your child gets to school late (after 8:00am) they are considered tarty.

To excuse absences or tardies we must receive a written note (examples: doctors note, hand written parent note, or an email). Once the note is received by the front office, the attendance code is changed within Infinite Campus from an unexcused absence/tardy to an excused absence/tardy. If a child is quarantined due to Covid, once the quarantine or positive case is confirmed, those absences are automatically adjusted and do not require a written note.

At weeks end, Mr. Brown prints attendance letters and mails them to the parents of students who have either 3, 5 or 7 unexcused absences/tardies. If you receive one of these letters please communicate with the front office to provide proper paperwork for the absences on record.

  1. Death or severe illness in the student’s immediate family;
  2. Illness of the student;
  3. Documented military leave/return of a parent or guardian;
  4. Other valid reasons as determined by the Principal, including trips qualifying as educational enhancement opportunities.

A student is allowed 5 days excused with parent notes and 7 days with doctor notes per school year. After 7 doctor notes have been used, the district medical excuse form must be submitted for excused absences and/or tardies. Parent and doctor notes must be turned in to the school within 72 hours of the student’s absence.

CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM: Missing more than 10% of the school year, or 17 days, for any reason, excused or unexcused. TRUANCY: A student who has been absent or tardy without a valid excuse for three or more days is considered truant. A student reported as a truant two or more times is a habitual truant. Students reaching the status of habitual truant can expect a home visit from a school district official. Continuing absences or tardies will result in referral to the court system.

Ident-a-Kid Visitor Sign-in

We ask all adults who would like to come in to our building at any point during the day to walk their child to their rooms or eat with them in the cafeteria to sign-in using the Ident-a-Kid system in the front office. Thank you for your understanding.

Classroom & School Volunteers are Welcome!

This year we are getting back into having visitors and volunteers in our building. We love and need to have extra hands helping our teachers and staff out during the school day. If you are able to regularly volunteer your time to help in the classroom, cafeteria during lunch or in other capacities, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher to get a volunteer packet. After filling out the packet, please be sure to return it to the front office.

Lunch Room Volunteers

If you have time during your day to see wonderful, beautiful and hungry smiling faces at lunch then this opportunity is for you. Click the link here to sign-up to be a lunch volunteer this school year. It would be wonderful if our students could have two volunteers each day to help out during the busy lunch time.
