ONE MONTH DOWN...
As we approach the end of the first month of school, our routines are more established and being in school feels just about as “normal” as could be expected. I have really enjoyed seeing our virtual teachers interact with their classes and would like to thank our parents for setting them up for success!
As expected we have had some cases of COVID-19 among our students and staff; now at each level -- elementary, middle and high school. In each instance, we did our very best to carefully contact trace and only quarantine the students who were close contacts. We appreciate the cooperation of our families who are called at any time during the school day to pick up their children. We certainly understand the inconvenience of this. The 14-day quarantine period includes weekends and, we hope, will go by rather quickly for you and your child. Please know that we continue to meet with the Franklin Health Department several times a week and will continue to do our very best to keep your children safe.
As we communicated when we released our metrics dashboard to our families last week, you can expect regular updates to that information on Fridays here in our District Newsletter. You can also find the dashboard parked on our Reopening Doors webpage.
Have a great weekend, it looks like the weather is going to be great!

NEW MASK MANDATE THROUGH 11/21
As you probably heard in the news this week, Governor Evers has issued a new Public Health Emergency Order #90 (here) and a new Emergency Order #1 (here). Emergency Order #1 extends the mask mandate to November 21st. Franklin Public Schools will continue to work under these orders. We have updated our FAQ page to reflect the new mask mandate.

FOOD SERVICE UPDATES
VIRTUAL FAMILIES ONLY - PLEASE COMPLETE FOOD FORM
If you have a virtual student and you are planning on ordering a lunch during the week of October 5th, we ask that you complete this meal interest survey indicating your lunch preferences by 11:59pm this coming Tuesday, September 29. Filling this out a week ahead of when needed helps our food services team to better plan for the upcoming weeks and improve the lunch experience for your child. The pick-up time for meals remains 8:30 to 9:00 Monday thru Friday at FPMS.
REMINDER: USDA FREE MEALS CONTINUES
Per the USDA, from now through December 31 (or until funds run out), all children can receive free meals. Lunch meals are available at no cost to all children age 18 and younger regardless of free/reduced lunch status. Some reminders about this program:
The USDA program will provide one free meal per student per day.
Student allergen information will not be available at the point of distribution of the meals
If you have allergen concerns, please view the online menu and discuss with your child(ren) the allergens in that day's meals.
Students at the high school and middle school can still purchase an additional entree if they choose
Individual milk purchases, separate from a meal, are not free under this program, so the student’s lunch account will be charged.
We are happy we can provide this service to the children of Franklin!
WHAT TO DO IF QUARANTINED/ISOLATED CHILD AT HOME?
If you have a child at home that has recently been quarantined as a close contact or isolated as a positive COVID-19 case, please contact your home school’s head cook (contact information here) and you can arrange for lunch pickup for the days your child(ren) is/are at home.
GUARDIAN GOOGLE CLASSROOM EMAIL SUMMARY
There is some confusion about the Parent/Guardian Google Classroom email summary. When a teacher adds a Parent/Guardian email addresses to Google Classroom, this does not give access to Google Classroom. The email address being added registers the parent/guardian to receive a weekly email summary that looks like the image below. The parent/guardian will get one summary per child for all Google Classrooms the child is connected to. You can read more about the Parent/Guardian summary you receive on this Google Classroom support page here.
This is what the summary email looks like:
THIS YEAR: A COLD IS NOT JUST "A COLD"
Please remember that if your child is showing any symptoms of illness, they should stay home. The image below for criteria for suspected COVID-19 comes at the direction of state and local health officials. In the past, a child or staff member dealing with a cold could probably "make it through the day." In the current climate of COVID-19, anyone exhibiting any of the symptoms, or a combination of symptoms meeting criteria for suspected COVID-19, will be sent home. If reported via our attendance form, district nursing staff will follow up with you. In order to return to school, one of these scenarios will need to be completed.
