GT with Mrs. G
Week of September 18
Greetings from Mrs. G!
Mrs. G's Classroom Happenings at SSS this week:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade PTP: We will begin working on the PTSA Reflections contest. Over the next six sessions, we will work on creating projects in as many areas as we can. We will also continue our ongoing brain teasers and reading.
4th-6th Grade Code Breakers: We will begin making our "Breakout" Game or scavenger hunt as our culminating project.
4th-6th Genius Hour- Genius Hour students are in the home stretch. Keep researching and working on those final digital projects.
7th-8th Innovation Explorations- We are finishing up our preparation for Shark Tank. They are working on their pitches. If parents are interested in attending our finale, it will be Wednesday, 9/27 at 1:30 in my room.
7th-8th KYA Mock Legislature-. Thank you so much for helping us raise almost $1000 in our coffee fundraiser. I'm hoping coffee will arrive early next week so we can distribute it! KYA financial aid grants came in Friday afternoon. Students should see me to learn how much they were granted and what their balance owed is. Balance is due next Friday, 9/29 or sooner. Permission packets are coming home this week.
SSS/FMS Academic Team News
We are still conducting try out tests for elementary and middle school students. It isn't too late! If your child has taken all the tests they'd like to take, there is no need for them to attend the sessions this week. We will work up a schedule very soon and communicate that to students and families.
Use this link to indicate your child's interest.
We will have one test date this week- Wednesday, Thursday, Sept. 21, until 3:45 in Mrs. Snipes or Mrs. Gilbert's room. An ESS bus is available.

Cool Opportunities for Kids
2. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is asking the Commonwealth’s art teachers and students to get started on this year’s Adopt-a-Highway Art Contest and submit their entries before the deadline on Oct. 31.
The Adopt-a-Highway Program’s Art Contest is held annually to increase public awareness about the damaging effects of litter, change attitudes and behaviors about littering and educate Kentuckians about the Adopt-a-Highway program.
Entries must be postmarked on or before Oct. 31 to be considered for this year’s contest.
The contest is divided in to four age groups: 5-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18. Winners of each age division earn a $100 gift card while second and third place finishers receive a $50 gift card. Additionally, first through third-place recipients for all age groups have their work featured in the Adopt-a-Highway Calendar and receive framed prints of their posters while the originals are framed and displayed at the Transportation Cabinet’s Conference Center in Frankfort.
Last year, nearly 1,600 students from across the Commonwealth entered the contest.
Additional information on the Adopt-a-Highway Program, including entry forms for the 2017 Adopt-a-Highway Art Contest can be found at http://transportation.ky.gov/Adopt-a-Highway/Pages/Events.aspx
