Web 2.0 Spotlight
Those of you who have attended The Learning Conferences sponsored by the county, have been introduced to a great new tool called Prism for text interpretation. From their website: "Prism is a tool for "crowdsourcing interpretation." Users are invited to provide an interpretation of a text by highlighting words according to different categories, or "facets." Each individual interpretation then contributes to the generation of a visualization which demonstrates the combined interpretation of all the users."
Simply put, you are able to copy and paste a text and have students highlight based on what you've been focusing on in class. For example, you could paste a poem and have students highlight literary devices or paste informational text and have students highlight the main ideas in one color and supporting details in another. You may choose up to 3 highlighted colors and you determine what the colors represent If your created link is public, students do not have to make an account. The best part? You get the feedback regarding the most highlighted words/phrases, etc. See the graphic below for an example!
Let me know if you'd like a brief tutorial :)
