Lockport City School District

December Points of Pride from Superintendent Bradley

LHS Academic “L” Recipients

Recently, 257 Lockport High School students received the Academic “L” during a ceremony in the auditorium. The “L” is awarded when a student earns a 90.0 average or higher for four consecutive quarters in one school year. This requires consistent effort, time management skills, and responsibility. Congratulations to all Academic “L” recipients for achieving this honor.

LHS Student Council 7th Annual Winter Coat Drive

Coats for all ages were collected by LHS students and staff. GI-RO Dry Cleaners cleaned the coats and donated 25 coats to the drive. Senior Michaela Kurbs served as the student organizer of this year's event. The coats collected will be shared throughout the school district for distribution to students and families. Additional coats will be donated to the Salvation Army and Lockport CARES.

Wellness Wednesday

Anna Merritt is promoting the district's health and wellness initiative with "Wellness Wednesday". Each Wednesday the wellness tip of the week is promoted during the announcements, displayed on the digital TV in the building foyer, and featured on their website and on social media. Topics include the benefits of eating a good breakfast, kindness, exercise and sleep; dealing with stress; limiting screen time; and seasonal tips for cold and flu weather.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow

Charles Upson is promoting the district's attendance awareness initiative by awarding perfect attendance certificates and prizes each month to a boy and girl. The names of students with perfect attendance are placed in a raffle drawing for prizes such as backpacks, shirts, and school supplies. Students are featured on social media, included in the principal's monthly newsletter sent to parents, and their photos are displayed on the digital TV in the main office.

Through the generosity of the Optimists over 1,700 items have been donated to date. Thank you Optimist Club!
This message extends best wishes to everyone for a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or a Joyous Kwanzaa. May 2020 be filled with good health and much happiness.
